The Stellantis automotive group is on the move with Dare Forward 2030, a business plan outlining the lineup for the rest of the decade. Split up into five parts, a large goal for the next seven years (2023 included), more than 75 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) are planned to be developed this year, with 25 of those all-new BEVs due to hit the U.S. market. Technology for BEVs and new and upcoming vehicle concepts were also a large highlight, with talk of a hydrogen-powered vehicle and autonomous services. Recent media reports that Stellantis has launched a new “Pro One” strategy to expand its commercial vehicle truck business to include these changes.

Needing to meet its demand for BEV batteries to power the growing lineup, Stellantis and Samsung SDI have entered into various joint ventures to build BEV battery plants, with two Stellantis/Samsung SDI battery plants being constructed in Kokomo, Indiana. Following the shift towards electrified vehicles, such as the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Dodge eMuscle with the new Dodge Hornet R/T plug-in hybrid. Ram Truck revealed the electric ProMaster cargo van last year, and announced an agreement with Amazon buying Ram ProMaster electric vans to build its merchant fleet. On top of that, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV (all-electric Ram 1500) was revealed in mid-2023.

According to recent sources, Stellantis North America aims to release four electrified pickup trucks over the next two years (2025) to expand its lineup here in the states and Canada. Details were a little sparse, but if the recent ProMaster EV and the Ram 1500 REV are two of the four models to be released by 2025, that leaves the new hydrogen model and perhaps something more evolved. In the Dare Forward 2030 business plan, a hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck was planned for 2025, which could mean an electric Ram Heavy-Duty 2500 or 3500 pickup truck.

The fourth model could be one of two possibilities. In 2022, information on a Ram 1200 mid-size pickup truck was leaked. With the mid-size truck segment still pretty slim after the Dodge Dakota Ram truck left the market, the Jeep Gladiator kicked the door wide open for other brands to fill the gap. Some reports say if the 1200 was to come to fruition, it may only be a South America entry. That only leaves a more refined, high-technology pickup truck to take its place in the North American market.

Looking into connectivity with vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology and autonomous services, Stellantis had plants to develop top-level autonomous driving assistance systems to bring its models to another level of comfort and convenience. In Europe, a vehicle said to feature second-generation zero-emission powertrains, a unique hydrogen solution, and cars with full connectivity will be released. A recent project by Stellantis described a HELP System to alert drivers of upcoming hazards and immobilized vehicles, a product of its research into V2X technology. Stellantis may have some developments with the Chelsea Proving Grounds autonomous test facility, but fully autonomous cars still have an uphill battle when it comes to meeting the safety rules and guidelines set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
