Powertrain

According to the manufacturer’s website, there are a total of six trims this year for the 2023 Jeep grand Cherokee 4xe – 4xe, 30th Anniversary Edition, Trailhawk 4xe, Overland 4xe, Summit 4xe, and Summit Reserve 4xe. The PR only states four main trims – 4xe, Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit, so the focus is on these four, assuming the extra two don’t last all of 2023. The powertrain for each is the combination of a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine and an electric motor, able to generate up to 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Cherokee 4xe is a plug-in hybrid, meaning it can offer a driving mode that uses just electric power. Paired with an 8-speed automatic PHEV transmission, a total all-electric range (AER) of 25 miles can be expected, with a EPA-estimated 56 MPGe.

Charging and 4×4

Thanks to the installation of a charging port in the front fascia of the vehicle, consumers who prefer nose-in parking can now charge up in a parked position that they prefer. Three driving modes are available – (1) Hybrid, for using the electric motor and gas engine for optimal performance, (2) Electric, for zero-emission electric power, and (3) eSave, for using just the gasoline and saving the battery for later. Every trim comes with a Selec-Terrain traction management system, Quadra-Lift Air Suspension and Quadra-Trac II for tackling various kinds of terrain. The towing capacity of the 4xe and 30th Anniversary trim are 3500 pounds, but the rest of the lineup has a towing capacity of 6000 pounds. Each trim has 10.9 inches of ground clearance and 24 inches of water-fording capability.

Exterior Features

Standard features for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee include heated exterior mirrors with memory (plus turn signals for the first three trims), automatic headlamps and high-beam headlamp-control, LED tail lamps and reflector headlamps, rain-sensitive windshield wipers (options for 4xe and Trailhawk 4xe trims., a power liftgate (hands-free or with a button push), acoustic laminated front door and rear glass, an acoustic windshield, deep-tint privacy glass, and bright roof rails. Ambient LED lighting can be found on the first three trims, and the Overland forward comes with bi-function LED premium reflector headlamps. 18-inch wheels are the standard, with 20-inch wheels becoming available, starting with the Overland.

Interior Features

Surprisingly, Capri leather upholstery is the standard, with Capri leatherette on the 30th Anniversary Edition, Nappa leather on the Overland and Summit trims, and Palermo leather on the Summit Reserve 4xe. Standard interior features include an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with driver-seat memory, heated front and second-row seats, a rear 60/40 split-folding seat, ventilated front seats (available option on the 4xe trim), a dual-pane panoramic sunroof (available option on the Trailhawk), and dual-zone a/c automatic temperature control. Starting with the Overland trim, a 12-way power-adjustable driver seat becomes available, front passenger seat memory, a back-massager for the driver and front passenger, and 4-zone automatic temperature control.

Entertainment

Uconnect 5 with navigation on a 10.1-inch touchscreen is the lineup standard, plus a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, HD Radio, integrated voice command, and a 9-speaker sound system with a subwoofer. A wireless charging pas is available on select trims, Amazon Fire TV is also available for select trims, as is a 10.1-inch rear entertainment screen.

Safety Features and Warranty

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe comes with many basic safety features, including multistage advanced airbags, traction and stability controls, a Sentry Key theft deterrent system, and a ParkView rear backup camera. Many advanced safety features are also standard, such as blind spot and cross-path detection, full-speed forward-collision warning plus, a ParkSense front and rear park-assist system with stop, and adaptive cruise control with stop. A surround view camera system is available on all trims.

All Jeep vehicles are covered by a basic 3-year/36,000 mile warranty, a 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for 5 years or 100,000 miles. There is also a 10 Year/100,000 Miles warranty on the 4xe high voltage battery.
