Ram and Jeep Win Awards from Green Car Journal in 2022

When people think of green cars, they think of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), electric vehicles (EVs), and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Not many may think “EcoDiesel”, but it’s a legendary name when it comes to Jeep SUVs and Ram pickup trucks. In fact, Ram announced its last 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel for January 2023, and Jeep announced its final EcoDiesel model, the 2023 Wrangler Rubicon FarOut. Paying some respects to the EcoDiesel family, and the new Jeep 4xe models, Green Car Journal awarded some very special models during its 2023 Green Car Awards – the 2023 Jeep® Grand Cherokee 4xe and the 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.
What is Green Car Journal? Only one of the most well-known publication with a large focus on green vehicles as well as energy and technologies in the automotive industry that double as being environmentally friendly. With the shift towards PHEVs, EVs, and BEVs in the industry, many more automakers will be striving to not only outperform the competition, but soon, will also soon be competing to land amongst winner’s circle for the 2023 Green Car Awards by Green Car Journal. Stellantis already has a step up on this with its Dare Forward 2030 campaign, with more than 75 BEVs planned for production throughout the rest of the decade. The Green Car Journal uses the Green Car Awards to recognize automakers for their efforts and accomplishments in producing vehicles that are eco-friendly and go green.
Jeep has been rolling 4xe models out since 2020, starting with the Jeep Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe overseas, and finally landing in America with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. As the automaker continues to electrify models in the lineup, we’ve even seen the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe spotted in test drives. As the automaker continues to go electric, the first all-electric Jeep SUV, set for release next year (2023). Right now, the most popular of the green models is the Wranlger 4xe, but surprisingly, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid was named the 2023 Green 4×4 of the Year by Green Car Journal.
“The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe does an exceptional job of meeting the needs of a wide range of buyers today…Its 2023 Green 4×4 of the Year® title is well earned, not only due to its considerable trail capabilities and ability to drive 25 miles on battery power alone, but also because of the sophisticated and satisfying driving experience it brings to the mission of navigating everyday life.” – Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com
Ram also took home an award, with the 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel earning the publication’s award for 2023 Green Truck of the Year. We know, a little odd, not being an EV, but Ram is also heading down the electrified path of Stellantis with an EV of its own. Also set for release, either in 2023 or 2024, the first all-electric Ram 1500 will be heading to dealerships soon enough. For now, we’re talking about the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine with the best-in-class half-ton pickup truck in the segment, able to generate 480 lb-ft, offering a towing capability of 12,560 pounds. This light duty pickup truck can also go far with an available 33-gallon fuel tank, extending the driving range past 1,000 miles.
Following these electric models will be the beginning of Dodge eMuscle with the Fratzog lineup, so Stellantis will be bursting with EVs and BEVs in the coming years.
