Dodge Reveals Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Stryker Red at 2022 SEMA

All eyes have been on Dodge as of late for a number of reasons. Dodge eMuscle is right around the corner, starting with the Dodge Hornet PHEV. Dodge chief Tim Kuniskis recently discussed the upcoming electric vehicle (EV) powertrain lineup for eMuscle, and of course, we’re all wondering what happened to the seventh and final “Last Call” Dodge vehicle that was supposed to show up at the 2022 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Well, instead of the “Last Call” model, Dodge is putting the spotlight on its first all-electric concept model, the Charger Daytona SRT BEV.
“The SEMA Show is one of the great gatherings of the performance culture, and Dodge isn’t going to shy away as we develop the next generation of muscle car – one that just happens to be fully electric…Technology moves forward and the customizers and tuners move right along with it. We’re demonstrating how old-school hot-rodding will thrive in an electrified muscle-car future.” – Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer – Stellantis
Kuniskis discussed several powertrain types, and it seems that three of them will be showing up first on the Hornet and this BEV concept. As far as we know, the Dodge BEV will can come with a 340 kW powertrain, able to generate 455 horsepower, or a 440 kW electric motor, able to generate up to 590 horsepower. A yet-unannounced third powertrain, the 800-volt SRT Banshee powertrain package is circling the news, and many arrows point to the Hornet PHEV as the first model to show us the power of the Banshee. Simultaneously, Dodge Direct Connection will be offering several upgrades for the two aforementioned powertrains, as noted by Kuniskis in his interview.
Known as Direct Connection Stage 1 and Stage 2 performance, or “eStage 1” and “eStage 2”, these upgrades use a “crystal” key to plug into the dash. For the 340 kW power level, eStage 1 brings that number up to 370 kw (495 horsepower), and eStage 2 goes up to 400 kW (535 horsepower). The second power level, 440 kw, can be increased to 470 kw (630 horsepower) with eStage 1, and 500 kW (670 horsepower) with eStage 2. Basically, this is looking a lot like the black and red key fobs for the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, able to unleash its true power depending on which key is used.
The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept showing up at the 2022 SEMA Show is called “Stryker Red” due to its new tri-coat Stryker Red exterior hue. A new exterior paint job is to celebrate the Stage 2 Banshee performance upgrade (to be revealed at a later date). Sporting more Direct Connection upgrades, the concept comes with “Stage 2” fender badging and rides on new 18-inch Direct Connection lightweight carbon-fiber concept wheels wrapped in 305mm drag radial tires. In total, there will be nine power levels for the BEV concept, and Stryker Red is just one of nine unique paint colors to match, along with nine wheel combinations to match.
During SEMA, show goers can see all of this in a video display. Later, on-site teams will be engaging with attendees to survey first-impressions of the BEV concept and the patent-pending Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust – the world’s first BEV exhaust system. Not a real exhaust, since this is a BEV concept, Dodge wants to remind consumers this is still a muscle car, and the exhaust generates more sound than fumes, with an engine “roar” of 126 decibels reminiscent of the SRT Hellcat. First impressions were a little low, and Dodge tuned it up for SEMA, so we’ll see how that pans out.
