Jeep Announced Wrangler 4xe for Global Release

September 9th, 2020 by

The beginning of 2020 had a great start didn’t it? Fireworks, music, maybe a kiss for good luck. Then, COVID-19 happened, and we all know how well the year went after that. Before the virus though, automakers were breaking out their new models, Jeep included. One would think after the Jeep Gladiator off-road pickup truck, that was enough, but Jeep is one automaker set on following through with its five-year roadmap. After releasing the “First Edition” models of the Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe in Europe, we were all hoping for America to get its models. Well, it took some time, but Jeep finally released the Jeep® Wrangler 4xe for a global release.

Here we are, the most capable, technically advanced, and eco-friendly Wrangler ever built. It’s not fully electric, Jeep hasn’t made the jump for battery-powered vehicles just yet, but this is a plug-in hybrid. Engineered with an advanced powertrain, the Wrangler 4xe comes with a combination of two electric motors, a high-voltage battery pack, and a high-tech 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine. With power transferred through a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, this is the most advanced powertrain to be found on a Wrangler, or any Jeep vehicle, really. With electric vehicle (EV) charge port plugs installed, tailored for each model and specific regions where sold, we may not need to wait for the Europe release to pass. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is being assembled at FCA’s Toledo Assembly Complex in Toledo, Ohio.

“Our Jeep 4xe vehicles will be the most efficient, responsible and capable that the brand has ever created…We are committed to make Jeep the greenest SUV brand. The electrification of the Jeep lineup will allow commuters to travel solely on electric power, delivering an efficient and fun on-road experience and offering an ability to enjoy even more Jeep capability off-road in nearly complete silence.” – Christian Meunier, Global President of Jeep Brand – FCA

Able to travel up to 25 miles on electric-only propulsion, nearly silent and with zero-emissions, this Jeep is definitely a win for the environment. Capable and eco-friendly, it’s a win for anyone who wants a little adventure without poisoning the unbeaten path and the many trails Jeepers love to explore with carbon dioxide fumes. It truly is an “open air” experience, and with the configurations Jeep offers consumers, drivers can really enjoy the open air with a removable roof or convertible soft top. With off-road capability on the line, the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe is available in three models – 4xe, Sahara 4xe, and Rubicon 4xe – with the Wrangler 4xe and Wrangler Sahara 4xe models equipped with full-time 4×4 systems, front and rear next-generation Dana 44 axles, and come with the Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. If looking for extra grip, a Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential for extra grip and capability in low-traction situations, is available.

If not looking into the Sahara 4xe, all Wrangler 4xe models wear a Trail Rated badge for their legendary 4×4 capability with equipment. Whether your plans are to go off-road or stay on the streets, each Wrangler 4xe comes with skid plates and front and rear tow hooks; 20-inch wheels standard (available, 17-inch, off-road wheels and 33-inch tires, standard on Rubicon 4xe); has an approach angle of 44 degrees, breakover angle of 22.5 degrees, departure angle of 35.6 degrees and ground clearance of 10.8 inches; and can handle water fording up to 30 inches. There is no sacrificing off-road capability when it comes to a Jeep.
