Jeep and Ram Take Home Many Awards During NEMPA Winter Competition

August 3rd, 2022 by

The summer is well underway, and we’re all hoping it will be over sooner than later. However, this is also the perfect time for the auto industry. Not only are consumers looking for new cars for that summer getaway, but organizations and automotive journalists are starting to round up reviews and put together “Best of” lists. On top of that, summer competitions are heating up, and one in particular recently concluded. Known as the NEMPA Winter Driving Competition, held by the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA), Jeep and Ram swept up the awards, like they do every year, with the all-new 2022 Grand Wagoneer, 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, and the 2022 Ram 1500.

“The Grand Wagoneer sets the new standard for luxury SUVs…It has everything required to take on the road less travelled with up to 510 horsepower and the ability to tow up to 9,850 pounds while surrounding its passengers in luxury. The Ram 1500 prevailed in the hard-fought pickup truck category with its five engine choices, including a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI®, two mild-hybrid versions and available four corner air suspension that not only smooths out the ride, but helps improve fuel economy.” – John Paul, president, New England Motor Press Association

As said above, the 2022 Ram 1500 earned the NEMPA top truck award – the Official Winter Pickup Truck of New England – marking this as the second consecutive year that the light duty pickup truck took home the accolade. Setting the new standard for pickup trucks everywhere with a stunning combination of durability, technology, efficiency, performance, and convenience, the Ram 2500 offers a towing capability of up to 12,750 pounds and a 2,300-pound payload. Able to offer a boost of torque at 0 RPM with the eTorque 48-volt mild-hybrid system, available in V6 (standard) and V8 configuration, this kind of technology emboldens the performance of the Ram 1500.

Taking the most prestigious award for the competition is the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, earning the title of the Official Winter SUV of New England. Since its first debut in 2021, the Grand Wagoneer has been showing off its features and performance. Setting a new standard for sophistication, authenticity, and modern mobility in full-size off-road SUVs, the Grand Wagoneer is only met on par with the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, a new entry for the automaker and the first three-row SUV to enter the lineup. Earning itself the title of best Mid-size SUV, the Grand Cherokee L has all the goodies of the original Grand Cherokee, plus the third row for greater seating capacity, cargo volume, and overall passenger comfort. Of course, the Jeep Wrangler won the compact SUV category, a true American car and known for its eight decades of 4×4 engineering. Electrifying the lineup, Jeep released the first ever electrified Wrangler 4xe in 2020, and the brand has never been the same – but in a good way, with the first-ever all-electric Jeep on the way.

For some credibility, if NEMPA is unheard of, the group has been around since 1987. With a focus on markets in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, NEMPA has an outreach of 14.5 million people. With appearances on cable TV, on the Internet and radio, in regional and national newspapers and magazines, NEMPA is huge in the north. The recent winter vehicle competition is one of the competitions NEMPA holds every year, and we believe Jeep and Ram will continue to clean house as the years go by.
