The Ram 1500 continues to win hearts of truck lovers everywhere. Every year, the light duty pickup truck proves to be more than just a work truck. With updates and plenty of changes for 2022, the Ram 1500 may as well be all-new all over again.

This year, the 2022 Ram 1500 comes with 8 main trims, plus a couple of special trims. The main lineup is the Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and the TRX. Known for offering various configurations, the standard cab on the pickup truck is a Quad Cab, with a Crew Cab on all trims from the Laramie forward. Standard on all trims up to the Limited Longhorn is a 3.6-liter V6 optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) for performance and fuel efficiency and eTorque under the hood, able to produce 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.
Available on all trims is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine without eTorque, able to generate up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. eTorque is a standard on the Limited trim (available on the trims before it), capable of generating an additional 130 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine, with a best-in-class rating for 480 lb-ft of torque and 260 horsepower is also available on all trims but the TRX. Standard and only found on the TRX is the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 SRT engine, able to generate 702 horsepower, 650 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
Regardless, power is transferred through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Each trim also comes with a different towing capability. Here they are in order – 7,730 pounds for the Tradesman, 6,730 pounds for the Tradesman HFE, 6,640 pounds for the Big Horn and Laramie, 7,520 pounds for the Rebel, 6,550 pounds for the Limited Longhorn, 8,420 pounds for the Limited, and 8,100 pounds for the TRX
Joining 2022 is the New Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition joins the lineup and features an exclusive Blue Shade exterior color, multi-function tailgate, cold air intake, cold end exhaust, unique badging, and 22-inch polished wheels adorning the exterior. Inside, consumers will find unique Indigo and Sea Salt quilted leather seats, instrument panel, console and door inserts, suede headliner, 10th Anniversary console badge and cluster splash screen, aluminum Litho bezels, jeweled shifter knob, metal pedal kit, and a 19-speaker premium sound system. There are also the Ram 1500 Laramie G/T and Ram 1500 Rebel G/T Crew Cab models with the 5-foot, 7-inch bed includes a sport performance hood, black grille, GT decals, cold air intake and cold end exhaust. Inside, there are bucket seats with high bolsters, a new flat-bottom steering wheel with enhanced hand grips and aluminum paddle shifters, performance-oriented floor shifter, performance screens, all-weather floor mats and metal pedal kit.
A new Ram 1500 Longhorn SouthFork model replaces the Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary trim, equipped with a multi-function tailgate, deployable bed step, spray-in bedliner, metal pedal kit, and Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain tires. The Bed Utility Group with cargo tie-down hooks, LED box lightning and cargo divider is also included. Lastly, the new Ram 1500 BackCountry is available on Ram 1500 Big Horn and Lone Star models. This adds a body-color grille surround, black tu-tone exterior paint, black badging, exhaust, headlamps, running boards and mirrors, tonneau cover, the Bed Utility Group, and Off Road Group, adding electronic locking rear axle, heavy-duty shock absorbers, skid plates for the front suspension, steering gear and transfer case, hill-descent control, Off-Road pages, tow hooks, and all-terrain or on/off-road tires.
Aside from all these amazing new additions, consumers can find many of the same reliable features on the exterior and interior, starting with heated exterior mirrors, and eventually opening up the list to include exterior mirrors with supplemental turn signals, trailer-tow mirrors, exterior mirrors with memory, an auto-dimming driver mirror, and running lights starting on the Laramie trim. Automatic headlamps, illuminated entry, and a rear dome lamp are lineup standards, and LED footwell lighting starts on the Laramie. 18-inch wheels are the lineup standard, with 20-inch and 22-inch wheels are available on select models.
Standard on the Tradesman (not HFE) and the Big Horn are a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat and driver seat, and a 40/20/40 split bench (also on the Laramie). A rear 60/40 rear folding seat can be found on the Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, and TRX trims. A 4-way manual adjustable driver’s seat is standard, with an 8-way power driver seat available on select trims, standard on all trims past the Rebel. Heated front seats and second row seats are sprinkled throughout the lineup, starting with the Big Horn, and ventilated front and rear seats starting with the Laramie, plus dual-zone automatic temperature control. Depending on the trim, consumers will find cloth or leather upholstery.
Ram always gradually increases the tech throughout a lineup, starting with Uconnect 3 on a 5-inch display, until getting to the Laramie with Uconnect 5 on an 8.4-inch display as the standard, also available on the Big Horn, and on an 8.4-inch display or 12-inch with navigation. Uconnect 5 on an 8.4-inch display is standard on the Limited Longhorn, and standard on a 12-inch display on the Limited and TRX trims. Available on most trims past the Tradesman trims are features like integrated voice command with Bluetooth is available on most trims, along with a starting subscription to SiriusXM radio, a telematics system, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Google Android Audio, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, and more. The standard sound system comes with six speakers, but a nine amplified speaker with a subwoofer is available on the Big Horn, standard on the rest of the lineup. Available on select trims is a 19-speaker sound system by Harman Kardon with Premium sound.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2022 Ram 1500 comes with all the basic standard safety features, such as advanced multistage front airbags, supplemental front-mounted and side-curtain airbags, traction and stability control systems, and trailer safety. For more advanced and automatic safety features, consumer can find many trims have the following available or standard – a ParkView backup camera, full speed forward-collision warning plus, lane keep assist, blind spot and cross path detection, a remote start system, ParkSense front and rear park assist with stop, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, parallel and perpendicular park-assist with stop, and a surround view camera.
All Ram trucks are covered by a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, a 5-year/100,000-mile diesel powertrain warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile gas powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through warranty for 5 years and unlimited miles. Coverage also includes free towing to the nearest Ram Truck dealer, if necessary, and coverage is transferable.
