Dodge and Ram Rank High During 2023 J.D. Power APEAL Study
Summer isn’t only a great time for consumers, it’s also a great time for automakers. During the summer, J.D. Power & Associates starts to release the results of studies conducted across the auto industry to find some of the best vehicles out there for various categories. Back in June 2023, J.D. Power released the rankings for the 2023 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), and Dodge, Ram, and Alfa Romeo scored the highest amongst all other brands. In late July 2023, the annual J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study concluded with similar results for Dodge and Ram.
Unlike the IQS, the APEAL study is like it sounds. This study is all about the “appeal” consumers have for their vehicles. Similar to other studies, the rankings and scores for the J.D. Power APEAL study is based off of surveys sent out to owners of new 2023 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The study was conducted between February and May 2023. The 2023 U.S. APEAL Study results are based on 84,555 owners survey responses made up of several categories to rank a vehicle in. These include experiences with design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, perceived quality, and other factors owners may rank a vehicle on. The overall satisfaction of an owner comes down to a score on a 1,000-point scale.
With these scores in mind, Dodge was the highest ranked among mass market brands for the 2023 J.D. Power APEAL Study, with a score of 887. This makes four years-in-a-row that the muscle car automaker reaches the top. With the current generation being discontinued and “Last Call” models, we wonder if how Dodge will rank once the eMuscle lineup takes over with the likes of the Doge Hornet R/T. The automaker has always done well to listen to its consumers and what it wants, but the shift towards battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) is the only way to survive in the new age of automobiles.

Also landing near the top of the list is Ram Truck, receiving a score of 883-out-of-1000. Having perfected its pickup truck lineup, the automaker is moving onto other pastures with BEVs. The first all-electric Ram pickup truck ever has recently made its debut, the Ram Revolution 1500, first seen during the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show. We also got to see it up close in all its glory during the 2023 Chicago Auto Show. It would seem the automaker is quickly growing its electric lineup with the Ram 1500 REV and the Ram Promaster BEV.
Also ranking high for its respective segment, the Dodge Challenger was the highest ranked midsize sports car, and the Ram 1500 was the second-highest ranked large light duty pickup truck in the study.
