2024 Dodge Hornet Introduces the R/T and R/T Plus
When muscle car automaker Dodge first announced its plans to go electric, there was a lot of confusion and outrage. How could the automaker do this to us? Ending the current generations of the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, and producing “Last Call” models as a final sendoff, the new lineup for Dodge is eMuscle. Although there is some skepticism, the muscle car automaker is already wowing consumers with its 2023 Dodge Hornet PHEV. The 2023 Dodge Hornet is still fairly new, but it’s already getting some upgrades for 2024. Check out the highlights below.
The R/T Hornet Arrives
When the 2023 Dodge Hornet was first released, there were only two trims making up the lineup – GT AWD and GT PLUS AWD. Both trims were powered by a 2.0-liter Hurricane4 Turbo able to generate 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. There still isn’t much information about the battery and electric motor in this powertrain, so it’s unclear if this model is a plug-in hybrid or the last breath of pure-performance vehicles for Dodge. Or maybe it’s how they plan to keep the “muscle” in “eMuscle”.
For 2024, the Dodge Hornet R/T and R/T Plus join the party, and these are the official plug-in hybrid models, powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine able to deliver 288 horsepower 383 lb-ft of torque and an electric motor powered by a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery. Able to deliver 32 miles on a single electric charge and offer a total driving range of 360 miles, the performance is still there. The 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 5.6 seconds, and reach a top speed of 128 mph. Coming with the class-exclusive, on-demand PowerShot feature, the Hornet can also get a burst of 30 horsepower for several seconds, able to use again and again after a cooldown. There are also three driving modes to change how the plug-in hybrid operates: Hybrid, Electric, and E-Save. This in addition to the Sport Mode that comes standard for increased throttle response and control.
New Features
Much of the lineup is the same, but the R/T Plus and GT Plus add a Hands-free liftgate functionality feature to model. A Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist System can be added through the Tech Pack optional package. Other known advanced safety features include forward-collision emergency braking for cyclists and pedestrians, adaptive speed control, blind spot and cross-path detection, full-speed forward-collision warning plus, lane keep assist, and a ParkSense rear park-assist system with rear back-up camera. These are also all standard.
The tech was the top of the chain, a Uconnect 5 infotainment system displayed on a 10.23-inch touchscreen. This setup is capable of Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto functionality, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot with trial included. The GT adds hands-free phone and audio controls. The GT Plus and R/T Plus get Uconnect 5 with navigation, HD Radio, and integrated voice command. The GT and R/T feature a six-speaker system, whereas the GT PLUS and R/T Plus come with a Harman Kardon premium audio system. These trims can also add a power sunroof.
That’s a lot of good things coming with the Dodge Hornet R/T and R/T Plus. It seems GT and GT Entering the 2024 model year with some changes, find the Dodge Hornet at Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.
