Ram and Dodge Show Off Electric Models at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show
Wow, the middle of February 2023 is heating up this surprisingly chill winter. An auto show and the Super Bowl (LVII)? What a packed weekend for yours truly, heading over to the 2023 Chicago Auto Show to see what’s new before ordering drinks and wings for some good ol’ FOOTBALL! Wow, what a game to remember, it was so close, but the Kansas City Chiefs really pulled forward in the second half, winning the game by just three points – 38 vs 35 (Philadelphia Eagles). There were some nice Stellantis ads for the Ram Revolution REV and the electric expansion of Jeep, and we got a nice up-close look at the former during the auto show in Chicago.
Star of the Stellantis exhibit with rotating platform and all, the Ram 1500 REV was on display for all to see. Yeah, I didn’t know the whole rotating platform was still a thing – there definitely weren’t any of those last year, and this year seems like it was even larger than the 2022 Chicago Auto Show. So many more automakers showed up, and there was a lot to do. Aside from the spectacle that is Camp Jeep and the Ram Truck Test Track, Stellantis had a firm place in this year’s show, showing off many of its upcoming electric models.
The first-look at the Ram 1500 REV jump seats surfaced on the internet not too long ago, and based on what we could see in the debut model, the third-row definitely seems a little non-existent, more of an after-thought, but a neat inclusion nonetheless for medium-sized groups, especially for all the upcoming fishing trips now that things are starting to warm up a little. The Ram 1500 REV also makes some space for third-row passengers by expanding the wheelbase by four inches to make room for the large battery. Many of the features that popped up in the initial preview have prevailed to the prototype model, such as the new RamBox, built off of the exclusive RamBox Cargo Management System with two tiers of storage space for organizing cargo and rings for anchor points. The new Ram Truck Rail System, an in-floor rail system that offers numerous cabin configurations and flexibility for hailing cargo, also makes it into the electric truck, shaping up to be more of a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) than the average everyday pickup truck.
Also making an appearance, we got a good look at the 2023 Dodge Hornet PHEV. Who knew a hatchback by Dodge could look so good? Mind the crazy lighting at the show putting lens flares on this thing, there were two variations of the Hornet PHEV at the show, the original blue model making rounds on the web, and this new flashy black model with classic Dodge racing stripes and decals. As far as I could see, the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT BEV Concept was not on the scene. A shame, really, I would have liked to get behind the wheel of that, but the last time we saw that was during the 2023 Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Dodge is still working at some kinks after mixed reviews during its initial debut.
Amongst them all, the Chrysler 300 snuck onto the exhibit floor. Earlier this year, the automaker celebrated the 70-year legacy of the sedan with the 2023 Chrysler 300C, powered by a 6.4-lter HEMI® engine able to generate 485 horsepower. Donning the Bright White paint job, this Chrysler 300 looked like a pearl in a sea of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Then again, there was as much love for gasoline-powered vehicles as there was for the new and upcoming electric models.
