Jeep Teases the Grand Wagoneer So Good

August 19th, 2020 by

Wow, 2020 might actually turn out to be a good year – be you never thought you would hear those words – or at least it is for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), soon to be renamed “Stellantis” after the merger with the PSA Groupe went official. First, the 2020 Jeep® Gladiator is finally getting some new trims added to the lineup, a very cool camping concept for the Jeep Gladiator, called Farout, was released, and the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX was finally revealed to the world. Could it get any better than this? Yes, it can, with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Oh me, oh my, we haven’t heard much about the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, or either of the Jeep Wagoneer models since early 2019. We almost thought Jeep forgot about the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models, slated for release by 2020 according to the automaker’s Five-Year Roadmap. Finally, after years of waiting, the Wagoneer models are about to arrive, and Jeep just couldn’t pass up the chance to drive Jeepers and fans alike a little more nuts. All we got were two images posted on Jeep social media channels – the one above, and what seems to be a push-button start for the engine (below).aventura-cjdr-2021-jeep-grand-wagoneer-engine-button

Well that’s certainly different! Who knew Jeep would ever leave its hard-boiled roots and drop the physical key to the ignition? Then again, a couple of changes are coming to the powertrain if the news we got last year is anything to go by. Jeep announced that it would eventually make an alternative fuel variant of each vehicle in its lineup, and if that is still happening, then the upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models could come with hybrid options at launch. There were also some rumors of a Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk powered by the same supercharged V8 of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, but that’s unlikely with Jeep more focused on designing vehicles that can tackle more off-road conditions with the new Desert-Rated Jeep vehicles.

The image above teases the Wagoneer badge – it’s not clear which one, it could be for the Wagoneer or the Grand Wagoneer, there’s no word on whether one or both are being released at the same time. Although Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is merging with the PSA Groupe into Stellantis in Italy, the Jeep keeps its American roots and pride with an American flag emblem next to the moniker badge. The automaker recently released a Special Edition Freedom Model as a tribute to US Army.

Leaving the look and feel of the old Wagoneer behind, many details are left up to the imagination at the moment. We won’t be seeing the Wagoneer, or the Grand Wagoneer, whichever it may be, until some time in 2021. To really drive the point home, Jeep really drove the point home with a short video clip that shows the old Jeep Grand Wagoneer driving along a windy road, to…well, we don’t want to spoil it. Check it out below for yourself.

Zing! Here’s looking forward to the Jeep Grand Wagoneer in 2021. Follow along with us on Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram social media.
