Jeep Grand Wagoneer Wins Popular Science Best of What’s New Award

November 28th, 2022 by

Back in 2021, Jeep® debuted its very first entry into the luxury class car segment with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer. It was like nothing else from the automaker, and since its release, the Wagoneer SUV models have been earning awards and making a new name for Jeep past the mass market. Its popularity spawned the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L models, following in the footsteps of the Grand Cherokee L model to sport a third row for more passenger and cargo space this year (2022). A prestigious award this sounds out of left-field but well-earned, during the 2023 J.D. Power ALG Residual Awards, the Jeep Wagoneer ranked high. Before 2022 ends, another award has been added to the trophy cabinet, this time from Popular Science, and its “Best of What’s New” annual awards.

“The Best of What’s New awards are our way of celebrating the most exciting and groundbreaking innovations of the year. These awards highlight the revolutionary inventions that are helping to improve our daily lives, our society and our planet…From the future of air travel to revolutionary skin care products, and from sustainable outdoors equipment to game-changing gadgets, this year’s list is a thrilling mix that we’re proud to call the Best of What’s New.” – Rob Verger, technology editor — Popular Science

Popular Science may be a magazine that covers all the cool new tech and discoveries popping up in the world with a degree of scientific subject matter. Dating all the way back to the flying car (due by 2011), the holopod in-home movie theaters, and walls with wireless electricity charging capabilities versus wall sockets – well, a lot of the tech discussed is still yet to be seen. Still, Popular Science also covers topics in various industries, like the automotive industry, and from time-to-time, we see one of our own cherished brands on the cover. Back in 2017, after Dodge released the short-lived Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, Popular Science discussed the SRT Power Chiller that made this model so powerful without bursting into flames (pun not intended). In 2019, the Ram 2500 won the Popular Science 2020 Best of What’s New Award, so another Stellantis brand is bound to bag the award once again.

This time, the spotlight is for none other than the Grand Wagoneer, all new for 2022 and bringing back an American classic in a form. Originally a rebirth of the classic station wagon, the new Wagoneer series is far from a block of wood on wheels, and much of its technological aspects really bring the nameplate into modern times. The Popular Science award was earned for the class-exclusive 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display in the Grand Wagoneer, but there’s a lot more the new model has going for it. With two available 4×4 systems, amazing driving dynamics on and off road, a best-in-class towing capability of up to 9,850 pounds, advanced technology and safety standard, and a new level of comfort for up to eight passengers with the L models. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is making a name for itself all over again.
