Wow, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) sure is doing well lately. Sales are up, their testing of the Google Waymo continues, and it seems like every week, one of the FCA brands releases a new special edition, greenlights a new vehicle concept for production, or the automotive group FCA itself announces new technology for automobiles, like the turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. More good news comes to us mid-late October with the end of the 2018 Texas Truck Rodeo, an annual event that had FCA vehicles going home with the most awards.

Texas Truck Rodeo

The Texas Truck Rodeo, hosted by the Texas Automotive Writers Association (TAWA), is an annual event that spans over three days to compare a wide range of large vehicles. This year, 19 different brands showed up, with a total of 57 pickup trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and commercial vehicles entered into the competition. During the competition, 69 TAWA members attended the event, and after two days of evaluations, cast their votes. The TAWA members inspect everything, from the exterior and interior styling to the capabilities and comforts the vehicle offers consumers.

Truck of Texas

“Truck of Texas” is quite the award to win, and FCA took it home when the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn was crowned the winner. A testament to the Laramie Longhorn True West theme, with cowboy flair and branding iron used to burn its own name onto the glove compartment, winning the “Truck of Texas” award just feels right. The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 also snatched up the “Full-Size Pickup Truck of Texas”, “Luxury Pickup Truck of Texas”, “Off-Road Pickup Truck of Texas”, “Best Powertrain” (thanks to the (eTorque Mild Hybrid System), and “Best New Technology” (thanks to the 12-inch Uconnect Touchscreen) awards.

“The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 stole the hearts of our members this year, and has earned our highest honor as the 2019 Truck of Texas. It’s not only capable, but it is comfortable, and the attention to detail is unlike anything in the truck market. It’s a home run for the Ram brand that scored the Truck of Texas trophy,” said Michael Marrs, President of TAWA.

Other FCA winners included the Ram Power Wagon winning “Heavy Duty Pickup Truck of Texas”, the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler winning “Off-Road SUV of Texas” and “Mid-Size SUV of Texas”, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee winning “Mid-Size Luxury SUV” for the seventh consecutive year. The Dodge Durango SRT even popped up at the event, winning the “Full-Size SUV” award for the second consecutive year. FCA took home 15 of 24 awards with the above vehicle awards and the 2019 Maserati Levante winning the “SUV of Texas” and “Full-Size Luxury SUV” awards, and the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio winning the “CUV of Texas” and “Luxury CUV” awards.

Every big win will just give Fiat Chrysler Automobiles more firepower when advertising their vehicles and more bragging rights than ever. When it comes to a vehicle being called the “Best” this or that, well, can anyone blame an automotive brand for a little gloating? There’s a whole lot of competition out there. Being called “the Best” is a big deal.
