2018 Dodge Durango SRT
The Dodge Durango SRT was sure a bit of a gamble. An SUV with SRT power? FCA did the same with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, and aside from the raceway, we’re unsure who is going to be driving such large, volatile vehicles. Still, Dodge keeps pushing the envelope, and after the strong reception based on the concept, the Durango SRT became a real vehicle with a price to match the power.
Under the hood of the Durango SRT is the iconic 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 SRT engine with MDS, and it is capable of generating 474 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The 2018 Dodge Durango has a recorded acceleration of 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a quarter-mile run of 12.9 seconds.
Driving and Handling
Paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Durango SRT has decent fuel economy for such a powerful engine. With 19 mpg on the highway, this SUV can go where it needs to and fast. For those who want the power for hauling cargo and not speed, the Durango SRT has a maximum towing capacity of 8,700 pounds.
Being a pure racing SUV but also on the high-end of the lineup, the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT comes with all the good stuff. Standard on the exterior of the vehicle are automatic on/off headlamps with automatic leveling, plus LED daytime running lamps, tail lamps with red accents, and premium LED fog lamps. That’s just the lighting, too – standard convenience features include an acoustic windshield to dull outside noise, heated exterior mirrors with memory and integrated turn signals, and a power liftgate. The Durango SRT rides on 20-inch five-spoke low gloss black wheels, and consumers have eight colors to choose from for the body paint to add some personal style.
Just like the exterior, the interior of the Dodge Durango SRT is fully loaded, starting with seating capacity for seven people with leather upholstery and black-colored seats. The driver seat comes with power 8-way adjustable positions with memory settings, and the passenger seat has the same features without memory. The second-row is made up of tumble captain chairs – no 60/40 split or flat-folding third row for this racing SUV. Instead, it has heated front and second-row seats, along with cool ventilation for front seats as well. Other standard features include an active noise control system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto-dimming side mirrors (driver’s side), triple-zone automatic temperature control, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, radio and side mirrors memory, a rear-heater, and second-row seat-mounted inboard armrests.
All of the entertainment options for the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT can be found via an 8.4-inch touchscreen display powered by the next-generation Uconnect 4C with navigation and smartphone capabilities to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Six Beats Premium speakers make up the audio system; HD Radio and integrated voice command with Bluetooth also come standard. Consumers will also find steering wheel mounted audio controls and SRT Performance Pages that measure racing times. If consumers wish to get more entertainment, they can opt-in for a Blu-Ray compatible dual screen video system, a rear DVD entertainment center, or a rear seat video system.
