Ram to Unveil BEV Ram 1500 Revolution during 2023 Consumer Electronics Show
The 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is coming up, set to take place in Las Vegas January 5-8, 2023. With 2200 exhibitors and 200 conference sessions, there is a lot to see. Although the name is “consumer electronics”, like tablets, smartphones, and everyday appliances, automakers also tend to show up. Car models are consumer products at the end of the day, and they’re becoming more and more like software as automakers move towards electric vehicles (EVs) [also referred to as battery-electric vehicles (BEVs)]. The new buzzword is “software-defined vehicles” (SDVs), and although Stellantis has yet to announce its own, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has stated that the auto group will “wait and see” how such products work out for competitors so that the group can work out glitches and issues reported when designing their own products. One Stellantis product definitely showing up at the 2023 CES is the long-awaited all-electric Ram 1500 pickup truck.
First teased in early 2022, the all-electric Ram 1500 was announced around the same time as Stellantis held its conference to discuss its new business strategy, Dare Forward 2030. Stellantis reported that the automaker would launch more than 75 new BEVs into the auto market between now and 2030. One of them is surely going to be the all-electric Ram 1500 and the first electric Jeep SUV. 4xe Jeep models were just the beginning for Stellantis to become a more electrified and diverse product line. Now the all-electric Ram 1500, dubbed the Ram Revolution concept, will finally see the light of day. We wonder what kind of consumer input on the Ram Revolution was kept for the final product.
The Ram 1500 Revolution is said to debut during a CES 2023 keynote address by Tavares. A global reveal, we’re expecting to get a lot of information and details about this new light duty pickup truck. The keynote address will take place on the first day of the 2023 CES, so expect plenty of news to come to light about the Ram Revolution before the CES ends. All we do know for now is that the Ram Revolution will be based on STLA Frame, the BEV-by-design body-on-frame architecture by Stellantis.
Doesn’t sound familiar? It hasn’t been discussed much, but it does have some similarities to other STLA concepts, such as the STLA SmartCockpit. The STLA SmartCockpit is a new BEV interior cabin design Stellantis, powered by Amazon products and solutions. An intelligent, adaptive, user-interface, STLA SmartCockpit, consumers can use the interface and dashboard to completely customize their experience on the road. So far, we know of the STLA Cockpit that allows consumers to create a customizable living space within the cabin using Amazon apps and services; the STLA Brain that acts as the operating system of the SmartCockpit, made up of 30 modules that connect the vehicle’s central high-performing computer (HPC) to a cloud; and STLA AutoDrive, a new system that offers Level 2, Level 2+, and Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities. Still working on Level 4 and 5 for true autonomy. Knowing this, the STLA Frame must be what all of this is built upon, i.e. the new platform for many upcoming BEVs from Stellantis.
