Jeep Releases Islander Edition After 11 Years
![]()
Soon after the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck was released, the automaker followed up with a team-up with Mopar to really accessorize and show what consumers can do with a midsize truck based off of the off-road SUV, the Jeep Wrangler. What quickly followed was the first Desert Rated vehicle at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, the Jeep Gladiator Mojave Edition, and then we noticed, the Gladiator is a little limited and needs more trims. Jeep heard us, announcing new trims in August 2020 for the Jeep Gladiator, followed by an interesting Gladiator Farout concept, and ending with a good tease of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. With the weather heating up, spring and summer are sure to follow, so why not release two new special editions? This time, however, love is returning to the one and only Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Renegade.
“Our Jeep enthusiasts expect legendary Jeep 4×4 capability, and they also embrace the Jeep brand’s fun ‘go anywhere, do anything’ adventure lifestyle…With Surf Blue accent stitching, Islander-embroidered front seats and available white three-piece hardtop on the Wrangler, you can’t help but think summer and the beach life when you see these new Islander special editions.” – Jim Morrison, Vice President, Jeep Brand North America
Anyone reminiscing out there? If the moniker “islander” sounds familiar, especially when it comes to the automarket, then you’re not alone. This is the return of the Islander after an 11-year hiatus, set to be released on two models. Yes, we said two special editions, namely because two Jeep models are getting the special treatment, but there is just one new edition coming to the 4×4 duo. Set up with unique, beach-themed accents, upbeat style, and summer-fun features it’s the return of the “Islander” edition, and each model comes with its own set of features.
Looking to set sail, figuratively speaking, with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Islander? Built upon the Sport S, the third trim in the lineup, consumers can pick the two- or four-door model when getting the Islander special edition. Each 2021 Jeep Wrangler Islander comes equipped with a Jeep Command-Trac 4×4 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio, Rubicon Rock Rails, and 17-inch Rubicon aluminum wheels in Silver Finish with all-terrain tires. Additional exterior features include a Tiki Bob hood decal, a Ceramic White mid-bolster, and black cloth seats with an embroidered Islander logo and Surf Blue accent stitching. Available on the outside is a white three-piece hardtop and the optional Islander Plus Package by Mopar that adds on front/rear grab handles, a cargo tub liner, solid sunbonnet top, and Tiki Bob soft spare-tire cover.
The inside isn’t much different, but because this is a special edition, the Sport S makes out like a bandit with Uconnect 4 with a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and dual-zone temperature control. These features are optional or altogether nonexistent on the regular Gladiator Sport S. Consumers will only find the extra goods included with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Islander, available in the following paint jobs: Billet Silver, Black, Chief, Granite Crystal, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Hellayella, Sarge Green, Snazzberry, and Sting-Gray.
Joining the brigade is the Jeep Renegade, trying on the Islander edition for the first time since its hiatus. Basing this one on the Renegade Latitude, also the third trim in the lineup, the Renegade Islander also gets a whole lot of new features unique to this model. Included is a dual-pane panoramic sunroof for ultimate open-air freedom, Uconnect 4 with a 7-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Keyless Entry with panic alarm, and a remote start system. Some exterior details return, such as the Tiki Bob hood decal, premium black cloth seats with an embroidered Islander logo and Surf Blue accent stitching. The Renegade Islander rides on 19-inch Silver Alloy wheels wrapped up in all-season tires. Extra optional features include an available Alpine White painted roof and a Jeep Active Drive full-time 4×4 system.
