Jeep Adds to Badge of Honor Program in 2021
Back in 2018, then Fiat Chrysler (FCA) automaker Jeep® introduced a new program to Jeepers and Jeep owners that celebrated the automaker’s heritage and the love fans have for their Jeeps. One of if not the most heavily modified vehicle with aftermarket accessories, consumers will take a from the factory Jeep made for going off-road to a Jeep with a snorkel and lift kit to cross small riverbeds. In honor of such feats, Jeep introduced the “Badge of Honor” program. Available online and as a mobile app, the program started with 49 trails, but the number grows, with one more trail being added in 2021, for a total of 58 trails since its release.
The Jeep Badge of Honor program is the only official off-road program that is entirely owned, operated, and developed by the Jeep brand. How it works is very simple. Jeep owners go to the App or Play Store, download it, install it, make a profile, and set up an account. Hundreds of thousands of legal off-road trails in the U.S.A. are displayed on the app, but Jeep only has certain trails designated as Jeep Badge of Honor trails, eligible for bragging rights and physical awards. These trails will also soon become a part of the Jeep 4xe Charging Network where Jeep will be installing EV chargers for its growing 4xe series.
All a Jeeper has to do is open the Jeep Badge of Honor Program app – the app will display the closest designated trail to the user’s location – select a trail, drive to the destination, and check-in. Now, that’s all one has to do, the app actually doesn’t have a way to track whether or not someone completes the trail. Of course, if you want to fake it and take the credit, you can, but why cheat yourself out of a mini adventure? If anything, it’s better to earn the badge once you get a chance to display it.
Did we mention the badges? After checking-in, users will have updated stats, completed trails, and a list of badges they’re eligible for. The user can pick any badge, fill out a form with the correct information, and in 8-12 weeks they get a real physical badge they can emblazon their Jeep with. Each badge comes with the trail’s name and an illustration of the trail itself. The new trail being added to the program is the Black Gap 4×4 trail in Big Bend National Park, Texas, making Texas home to two Badge of Honor trails, with the Northwest OHV Park in Bridgeport, Texas being the second, added last year to the program, along with Four Wheel Drive Way in Florida, and Bearwallow in West Virginia.
Why Texas? Well, we didn’t want to focus on it too much, but the 2021 Jeep Gladiator is definitely getting a new trim added to the lineup – hooray! – but this trim will only be available in Texas – boo! Called the Gladiator Texas Trail, this trim is based on the Gladiator Sport S trim and comes with its own unique collection of features. Don’t torture yourself over it, there are plenty of aftermarket accessories available for the Jeep Gladiator from Jeep and Mopar.
If really curious, the Texas Trail comes with 17-inch Mid-Gloss Black Aluminum wheels wrapped in 32-inch mud-terrain tires, the Jeep Command-Trac 4×4 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio, and standard features that include side steps, Trailer Tow Group, black hardtop, black leather seats embossed with the Texas Trail graphic and Technology Group with 7-inch radio and Convenience Group.
