Engine Type

With only four trims (Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon), all trims get the same engine and standard six-speed manual transmission. Under the hood is a 3.6-liter V6 engine, optimized with variable valve timing for great performance, and electric start-stop to conserve fuel. Each trim has a fuel economy of 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. An eight-speed automatic transmission is available to all trims.

Engineering

Because this is a midsize pickup truck, and an off-road vehicle, every trim has some form of 4×4 system by Jeep. The Sport, Sport S, and Overland come with a Command-Trac part-time 4WD system. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon comes with a 4:1 Rock-Trac heavy-duty part-time 4WD system for rock-crawling.

Towing capacity surprisingly varies. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Sport and Sport S have a maximum towing capacity of 7650 pounds. The Overland trim is only capable of 6000 pounds. For the Rubicon, the number goes up to 7000 pounds for the maximum towing cap.
