Choosing the right car in an industry that’s getting saturated, and currently shifting gears to go electric over the next five years, it can be a bit of a challenge for a driver to find the right car for them. It can become an even bigger challenge when shopping for a family of passengers. All of our values and what we’re looking for in a vehicle changes when precious cargo is in the back seat, and that means finding a vehicle that performs well in a variety of areas, especially safety and comfort. Although about to hit a tipping point in the auto industry, there are plenty of choices when it comes to family vehicles, especially SUVs like the Dodge Durango and minivans like the Chrysler Pacifica.

Who Says?

Digital Trends says, that’s who. Founded in 2006 and having grown, now worldwide, Digital Trends is a company that focuses on bringing information about home theater, cars – really all things tech – and bring it to the reader in a way that can help to enrich their lives. Now, that’s an important word: enrich. How many of us have technology that simply causes headaches instead of making life better? No, Alexa, stop!

When it comes to presenting new tech to the world, Digital Trends finds technology that is fun, easy to use, and designed well, and then reports on it on the web. They cover products both aspirational and attainable that can change and shape the lives of others. This can cover mainstream news like coverage of the recent 2018 E3! where games for 2019 were announced, cool high-tech like virtual reality, and of course, cars. Recently, Digital Trends named the Chrysler Pacifica and the Dodge Durango SRT as two of the top family cars to own.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica

Called the “best car for large families”, this minivan has always been a bit of a top seller. With all that Chrysler Pacifica manages to offer, and a starting MSRP of $26,995*, this is one minivan that has a lot to offer. It’s also made for those expecting to have a big family or a lot of after school extracurriculars, because if not making use of all eight seats, then consumers can expect up to 87.5 cubic-feet behind the second row, 32.3 cubic-feet behind the third row.

Speaking of eight seats, the Chrysler Pacifica has been said to bring many new innovations to the auto market. One of these is nearly 250 seating combinations one can perform for fitting passengers and/or cargo into the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica minivan, able to offer up to 140.5 cubic-feet behind the first row (driver and front passenger). Basically, the Chrysler Pacifica is made for families that need a lot of space.

Then there’s also the available technology, with Uconnect 4 on a 7-inch display the standard for most of the lineup, Uconnect 4C on an 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation on the Pacifica Touring Plus and Limited trims. There’s not a whole lot of difference between Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 4C aside from mirroring the phone screen display on the touchscreen and navigation capabilities for the latter versus the Uconnect home screen and no navigation. 2018 Dodge Durango SRT

Woah now, an SRT? As in “Street and Racing Technology”? What is that caliber of vehicle doing on a family cars list? Apparently, Digital Trends has a “Best Performance Family Car” category, and the Dodge Durango SRT is the SUV for soccer moms with a need for speed. Powered by a 475hp 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds, we can get home from soccer practice in time for ice cream!

There are other high performance vehicles that families can try, but the Dodge Durango offers a third row for seating and cargo storage flexibility, like the Chrysler Pacifica, and isn’t as expensive as some of the other options out there. The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT has a starting MSRP of $62,995* – hey, we said it “isn’t as expensive”, we didn’t say it was cheap. The Dodge Durango SRT does offer plenty of FCA goodies, along with its power, so the price is worth it. Families will be able to enjoy Uconnect 4C with navigation on an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, HD Radio, and can opt-in for a rear DVD entertainment system or rear seat video system.
