2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Special Edition Debuts
Jeep has been pretty great with keeping up with its promises to introduce an all-electric lineup, or an electric version of each current model making up the lineup. Starting with a five-year roadmap, the automaker has continued to expand, and the first two green models – called the 4xe models – were the Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe. First released overseas as First-Edition models, the Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe were followed by the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, released globally. Then, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was spotted by the usual automotive spies, and Jeep debuted the Grand Cherokee 4xe earlier this year (2022). Now to make it official, Jeep celebrates 30 years of the legendary Grand Cherokee 4×4 capability with the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show (New York International Auto Show).
“When the original Jeep Grand Cherokee debuted in 1992 by famously crashing through the glass at Cobo Hall, it literally shattered expectations and redefined what a premium SUV could be…Three decades later and more than 7 million Grand Cherokees sold, the most awarded SUV ever is still forging new ground with the electrified plug-in-hybrid 4xe model. The Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition underscores how far the Grand Cherokee has come and is yet another example of the Jeep brand’s goal to be the electrification leader in SUVs.” – Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America
Able to deliver 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, the Grand Cherokee 4xe still travels far, able to go 25 miles on clean electric power alone. Remember, the 4xe models are plug-in hybrids, so there’s still a gasoline tank doing the heavy work when it comes to range. Electric motors are known more for their torque at 0 RPM, and this one increases the max towing capability of the Grand Cherokee to 6000 pounds for the 4xe model. The 30th Anniversary special edition comes with its own bells and whistles to set it apart from the rest of the lineup, including a unique blacked-out exterior appearance with a new front fascia, signature blue tow hooks, special-edition badging and body-color rear fascia, lower moldings, sill claddings, a dual pane sunroof, dual exhaust, and wheel flares, all riding on new 20-inch black wheels. Still designed for going off-road, the Grand Cherokee 4xe comes equipped with a two-speed transfer case, 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio and 47.4:1 crawl ratio, plus 10.9 inches of ground clearance, 24 inches of water-fording capability, and five available terrain modes (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand. Like other 4xe models, there are various driving E Selec modes – Hybrid, Electric and eSave.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was initially released in 2022, and returns for 2023. For consumers that want the 30th Anniversary edition, a total of $4,700 was added on for the new package. Currently open for orders, vehicles will start hitting dealership rooms in early 2023. At the moment, consumers can only see them at the 2022 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on public days, currently running up until September 25, 2022.
