New Dodge Models, New Dodge Features
The Dodge muscle car and SUV lineup is getting some changes for 2021, some more than others. After Dodge released the SRT Super Stock trim, there really isn’t anywhere else to go. The sibling muscle car however, the Dodge Charger, still has a drum to beat and the Dodge Durango SUV just got an SRT Hellcat trim added to the model lineup. So, without further ado, let’s look at what’s new for these three Dodge muscle vehicles.
New on the Dodge Challenger
Aside from the Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock, only a few new additions have been made to the slowly dying Dodge Challenger for 2021. Standard for the GT trim with all-wheel drive (AWD), drivers can ride around on 20-inch wheels (available option for the SXT trim with AWD. SRT Hellcat models come with a new instrument panel badge; new Black Chrome grille, spoiler, and fender badge finish; and SRT branding on high-performance Brembo brakes (this last one is also available on the Scat Pack). Lastly, memory settings have been added to the driver seat, steering column, side mirrors and radio presets as an available feature across the lineup.
New for the Dodge Charger
The muscle sedan has got a lot going for it in 2021, and receiving its own Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye trim is just the start, powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI high-output V8 engine able to generate up to 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft torque. This trim also comes with the modern Widebody exterior with fender flares and wider wheels with Pirelli tires. Designed with a front mail-slot grille, plenty of cool air enters the engine to combust up to that 797 hp, and a newly designed, functional performance hood adds to the design as well as performance of this Hellcat. All that power is brought to a stop by a standard set of Brembo high-performance six-piston (front) and four-piston (rear) calipers, and vented rotors at all four corners. This model comes with four 20-inch wheels options and race-inspired interior features, mainly logos and badges.
New Dodge Durango Features
After the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat was released, we weren’t sure what else Dodge could add to this SUV, but we’re surprised with all the new changes and additions. Alongside the new 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, powered by a 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8 engine able to generate 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, the Durango has received a refreshed exterior to match the look of its counterparts with a muscular body and aggressive styling that blends SRT and muscle car DNA throughout the Durango lineup. This includes a forward-leaning profile with a new front fascia, LED low/high headlamps, LED daytime running lamp (DRL) signatures, sculpted hood, grille, rear spoiler, and a wide selection of wheel options. The new front end is slimmer, the rear end comes with a new spoiler, and select trims can come with the Blacktop package.
There are some nice additions to the interior as well. The driver-centric cockpit, instrument panel, and center console have all been touched up, offering an available, largest-in-class 10.1-inch touchscreen. The 2021 Dodge Durango is the second vehicle to offer the newest Uconnect 5 system, and to match it, a Uconnect LTE WiFi Package is available with Alexa-enabled devices at home to make use of the smart device from the vehicle cabin. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the lineup, and wireless charging is available on the R/T, Citadel, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat, and the GT trim. Two trims have received their own set of upgrades.
The new Dodge Durango R/T with AWD comes equipped with a Tow N Go Package that offers unmatched towing with best-in-class towing of 8,700 pounds; Track, Sport, Snow, and Tow drive modes; and a retuned SRT-performance exhaust. Upgraded styling choices add 20-by-10-inch aluminum wheels in Matte Vapor finish standard with Pirelli Scorpion Zero all-season tires, black Brembo brakes, flares and sills, and exhaust with tips. The 2021 Dodge Durango Citadel also has a new level of luxury with many premium features coming standard, including the 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5C with TomTom navigation, Sirius XM Radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Many safety features have also been added, such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Advanced Brake Assist, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist. The crème de la crème is the set of heated and ventilated Nappa leather front and passenger seats with embossed “Dodge stripes” (//) and heated second-row captain’s chairs – magnifique!
