2022 Jeep Renegade
The Jeep Renegade is a classic icon of the Jeep brand. Right up there with the Wrangler, the Renegade is easy to spot. Known for a life of adventure, the Renegade comes with a Trailhawk trim and has been called the most capable of the lineup at times. Slimming down for 2022, the Jeep Renegade returns for another year.

Avail. Engine Type
For 2022, the Jeep Renegade is down to four trims – Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk with the latter three locked into a 4×4 drivetrain. The Sport has the option of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4×4. Jeep has stated that the standard engine is the 1.3-liter I4 turbocharged MAir engine with electric start-stop technology from last year. It is capable of generating a total of 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. No word on the return of the 2.4-liter Zero Evap I4 Multi-Air engine or another powertrain with focus on 4xe models these days.
Driving and Handling
The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. On average, this offered a fuel economy of 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. All 4×4 trims come with the Jeep Select-Terrain Traction Management System, able to drive on snow, sand, or mud. For additional adventure, the Trailhawk comes with a Rock Mode for rock-crawling.
Aside from some new updates to the Limited model, the appearance and features are mostly the same. Standard features consist of heated exterior mirrors, a rear window wiper/washer, and deep-tint sunscreen or solar control glass. Past the base (Sport) trim, automatic headlamps and ambient LED interior lighting, bi-function LED projector lamps and LED cornering fog lamps, LED tail lamps, and rain-sensitive windshield wipers are also available. Most models can also add on roof rails, splash guards, and other off-road accessories. 16-, 17-, or 19-inch wheels were available last year, but this year, the Limited trim can come with 18-inch wheels as well. A new Altitude Package can change the appearance a bit with Gloss Black badging, grille rings, rear valence and DLR/turn bezels, Gloss Black exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, and 18-inch Gloss Black wheels.
Cloth upholstery is the standard, with leather usually saved for the Limited and Trailhawk. A 60/40 split-folding rear seat and automatic dual-zone temperature control are standard on all trims, with a 40/20/40 rear seat with a trunk available on select trims. Past the Sport trim, consumers can also find an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, leather or premium wrapped steering wheel, and a heated steering wheel. Select trims can install a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The new Altitude Package also adds to the interior with deluxe cloth or leather-trimmed seats with Ski Grey accent stitching, Gloss Black interior accents, and a black headliner.
The new lineup standard is Uconnect 4 on an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with GPS navigation. For 2022, the Jeep Renegade only offers Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 4C NAV 8.4-inch touchscreen radio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD radio, Bluetooth hands-free calling, voice command, streaming audio, and SiriusXM Radio. On previous models, a six-speaker sound system is the lineup standard, but a new premium audio system should be available.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2022 Jeep Renegade comes with many basic safety features, including an advanced multistage front airbag system with supplemental airbags all around the cabin, stability and traction control systems, an enhanced accident response system, a ParkView rear backup camera, and a LATCH-ready child seat anchor system. Trims past the Sport (base) trim can come with advanced automatic safety features like blind spot and cross path detection, lane departure warning plus, full-speed collision warning plus.
