2020 Jeep Gladiator Dominates Annual Mudfest

May 14th, 2019 by

With all the success of the 2020 Jeep® Gladiator, now hitting dealerships and the streets, the pickup truck from the off-road vehicle brand is quickly making a name for itself. Able to handle the uneven terrain of mudding or even the harsh conditions or rock crawling, the functional Jeep Gladiator offers consumers a lot more than just capability. It’s also a little slice of luxury, landing a place on the WardsAuto Best Interiors List for the Gladiator’s rugged interior styling, must-have features and technology, craftsmanship, and high-quality materials throughout the cabin. The most recent award comes from the Annual Northwest Automotive Press Association “Mudfest”

We did say it can handle mudding. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator currently touts the title of the most off-road capable midsize truck ever, based on the capability of the Jeep Wrangler JL. Northwest Automotive Press Association, or NWAPA, is a professional organization of automotive journalists and media members from throughout the Pacific Northwest and Southwest Canada. Representing more than 700 newspapers, magazines, radio stations, media groups, and the internet, the members of NWAPA primarily test and report on SUVs and crossovers. Their annual Mudfest takes on a different tone.

During the event, over 25 NWAPA automotive journalists spent two days testing vehicles on paved and off-road routes in various conditions. In total, there were 22 vehicles tested from 14 manufacturers. Journalists were to select winners in the following categories: Subcompact Utility, Compact, and Mid-size Utility, Family Utility, Premium Utility, Trucks and Extreme Capability. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator won out in three of these categories, for Truck and Extreme Capability, and took home top honors, being voted as the 2019 Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year by the automotive journalist members of NWAPA. This also marks the first time in the event’s 25-year history that a vehicle has captured the Overall, Truck and Extreme Capability categories at once.

“The 2019 NWAPA Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year competition featured the most diverse group of vehicles we’ve seen in its 25-year history…The all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator earned its title of Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year with an exceptionally functional blend of SUV and pickup attributes that northwest consumers crave.” – NWAPA President John Vincent of U.S. News & World Report.

If unfamiliar, U.S. News & World Report is a respected piece of literature that is a recognized leader in college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and car rankings. Primarily, it is a media company that publishes news, opinion, consumer advice, rankings, and analysis on a multitude of subjects. Just a little extra credibility for anyone questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator being named the 2019 NWAPA Outdoor Activity Vehicle. Trail Rated and designed to perform in a variety of challenging off-road conditions, the Jeep Gladiator shines in performance when it comes to traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water fording.

Although the trim that won three categories at the NWAPA Mudfest is unnamed, we would guess it was the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. Equipped with signature red tow hooks, Rock-Trac® 4×4 system,  a two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, front and rear heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lok® electric front- and rear-axle lockers, segment-exclusive electronic sway bar disconnect, cab and bedrock rails, and standard 33-inch Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain off-road tires, this is the crème de la crème of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator lineup.
