Sources Say the Ram ProMaster City Could Have an EV Nameplate Based on the Citroën Jumpy

Remember the Ram ProMaster City? A smaller version of the ProMaster, the ProMaster City cargo van offered a lot of possibilities. Thanks to Ram upfits, any cargo van could be turned into an organizer for deliveries with shelves and cabinets, a mobile office with a desk and electronics, or even a transportation van with chairs and maybe even TVs for long trips. The Ram ProMaster is still going strong, even going so far as to develop an electric ProMaster cargo can. Amazon bought a bunch of them to expand its commercial fleet, and continues to grow its relationship with Stellantis with Amazon-powered services and features. The Ram ProMaster City burned out in 2022, but according to a source, the electric small cargo van could bring back the nameplate.
Nothing is official. Just enough internet chatter to pull up some rugs and see what’s hiding underneath – dirt. Maybe even great dirt, depending on what the word is. Besides its relationship to the bird, word on the interweb claims a trusted source learned about an electric Ram ProMaster City based on the Citroën Jumpy. Now the merger between FCA Italy and the PSA Group makes sense. The Citroën Jumpy has been jointly developed by FCA Italy and PSA Group (now Stellantis) since 1994. Manufactured by Sevel, the Citroën Jumpy has always been in the portfolio between these two companies. They just never signed anything official until 2021.
Already introduced into the auto market, the Citroën Jumpy is well-known around the world under different nameplates. Fiat Scudo, Peugeot Expert, and Toyota ProAce. Peugeot is the other moniker for the PSA Group, so we know which one Stellantis had a hand in. Could a smaller, cheaper electric cargo van able to provide so many different options that the market is looking for? Sources say we could be looking at an electric cargo van with two choices for power: a 50 kWh or 75 kWh battery. The former provides an all-electric range (AER) of 139 miles, whereas the 75 kWh model can provide an AER of 217 miles. By current U.S. standards, it’s nothing groundbreaking, but neither is the charging time. Estimated to charge 0-80 percent in 38 minutes (50 kWh) or 45 minutes (75 kWh) when connected to a 100 kW DC fast charger, it doesn’t beat the 30 minutes or less of today’s standards.
That’s the beauty of bringing back an old nameplate, though. With the technology and design of today’s vehicles, maybe a small electric cargo van fits into the picture. We can make it better, we have the technology…smaller, cheaper, and electric. Look at the success of the electric ProMaster cargo van if any more evidence a smaller cargo van by Ram Truck could succeed. A small cargo van opens itself up to a different market that doesn’t need a cargo van the size of the average pickup truck.
So, when will all this talk become an official announcement from Stellantis? Claimed to come back as an electric van as soon as 2025, the Ram ProMaster City cargo van might return. Or it might not/ Find out when you follow us on Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram social media.
