Ram Debuts 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger

With the auto industry moving towards a more electrified future, there were some doubts for automotive groups like Stellantis. With only one plug-in hybrid in the lineup, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, the Jeep 4xe models were a nice addition, but there were still many more brands holding out. Then came the announcement of eMuscle and the Ram 1500 REV (all-electric pickup truck). Tim Kuniskis, Ram brand CEO – Stellantis once said by waiting out the storm, the automotive group can see what works and employ that technology into its lineup for success the first time around. It would seem one of the leading brands is capitalizing on that fact with its second electrified introduction – the all-new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger.
“With unlimited battery-electric range, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is the pinnacle of the light-duty pickup truck segment and the ultimate electric truck…The new Ramcharger is a beast of a light duty – 663 horsepower, 615 lb.-ft of torque, 4-second 0-60 mph, 14,000 lbs. of towing… and zero need for a public charger.” – Kuniskis
“Unlimited” is a bold claim to make. So far, the Ramcharger comes with a class-shattering targeted range of up to 690 miles. We wouldn’t call it unlimited, but it sure does blow the competition out of the water. Powered by a 92 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, paired with an on-board 130 kW generator, the Ramcharger is capable of sending 250-kilowatt (kW) to the front electric drive module (EDM) and 238 kW to the rear EDM. Equipped with vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home bi-directional charging, the Ramcharger can even charge another Stellantis battery-electric vehicle (BEV) or provide energy back to the home grid. This is truly pushing us to cleaner energy. Able to accelerate from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, this is a true performance electric pickup truck.
Capability
Well, the Ramcharger is more or less an all-electric truck, but one could also call it a new take on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The Ramcharger, of course, has a mechanical side to it. A 3.6-liter V6 engine sends power to the onboard generator, which is then converted into electric power to charge the battery while on-the-go or help or charge it when depleted. The engine doesn’t actually send any energy to the wheels, but it sounds like it can be used if the driver wants to preserve battery power while driving. Able to generate 663 horsepower and over 615 lb-ft of torque, the Ramcharger delivers a best-in-class 14,000 pounds towing with a class 5 hitch and a best-in-class maximum payload capacity of 2,625 pounds.
Built on the all-new STLA Frame platform, the Ramcharger is the first all-electric full-size truck from Ram, featuring a body-on-frame design. Made from all-new high-strength steel frame, the body is more lightweight, but still plenty durable. Wider to incorporate the battery pack in the center of the truck, the interior floor is still flat to keep cargo space ample. Like most Ram pickup trucks, these new models come with some off-road capability, equipped with a multi-link independent rear suspension as the standard, plus segment-exclusive, active-level, four-corner air suspension. The latter allows for five different modes: entry/exit, aero, normal, off-road 1, and off-road 2; five dynamic modes are also present – Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Off-road
There is also some autonomy coming to the Ramcharger. Nothing crazy, but the Autonomous Drive Assist System (ADAS) comes with Hands-free Highway Assist (L2+) for hands-off driving at all speeds and lane centering. Able to predict turns and curves, the ADAS can slow the vehicle down and then speed back up. It also features driver override if the driver happens to not be paying attention. Autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking assist is also available. Other safety features include adaptive cruise control, active driving assist, drowsy driver detection, and speed limit traffic signs display.
Style
Designed with a bold presence, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger has a modern aesthetic with a large, forward-leaning grille showcasing the prominent R-A-M badge. A body-side line connects the front fender, cab doors, and bed fenders to sharpen the side profile. To keep things aerodynamic, the bed and cab are sub-flush. To charge up, the charge port has been placed on the driver’s side front quarter panel. When charging up, the R-A-M badge lights up to indicate charging status – pulsing and steady. There is also an audible sound that alerts the driver when the Ramcharger is plugged in and charging. DC fast charging is also available.
In the rear, an all-new power tailgate is included to make opening and closing the bed much easier. An all-new, EV-specific, premium LED taillight design also spans across the tailgate for more electrified fashion. The RamBox returns, offering consumers the illuminated, highly versatile, weatherproof, and lockable storage compartment system. This beauty also features drain plugs on the bottom of the storage bins if acting as a cooler, and offers some electric charge to devices with a 115-volt outlet. The exterior is only matched by the interior, starting with comfortable yet durable authentic, premium materials, such as carbon fiber, metal, and leather.
Tungsten’s Indigo/Sea Salt interior really gives a fresh look to the interior cabin of the Ramcharger, featuring new platinum patina/semi-bright dual-textured metal accents; diamond knurling; a suede-wrapped headliner; A- and B-pillars; and visors. The driver and front passenger seats are decked out with 24-way power adjustment, memory settings, a massage function, power lumbar support, and four-way powered headrests. They come wrapped in premium quilted Natura Plus leather and offer heating and ventilation.
Technology
Talk about high-end tech. Infotainment is taken care of with the advanced Uconnect 5 system on a new 14.5-inch touchscreen, and the front passenger also gets their very own segment-first 10.25-inch passenger screen. The driver also gets a digital rearview mirror and a Heads-up Display (HUD; configurable up to 10 inches). Everyone can enjoy some tunes with the new Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system, featuring a segment-first and best-in-class 23 specifically tuned speakers, plus a high-performing 12-inch subwoofer and two 1-inch titanium dome tweeters. What a sound system!
The passenger screen comes with three major functions: co-pilot for navigation and device management, entertainment (via HDMI), and keeping an eye on the exterior vehicle cameras. For the driver, EV pages provide plenty of information on the powertrain, including Power Flow, Range Impact, Driving History, Charge Schedules, Max Battery Level, Charging Level, and a Digital Cluster Display (a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster). Both touchscreens are designed with Full Array Local Dimming technology for clearer pictures on an edge-lit screen.
Available with a digital key, Ram owners can add it to their smartphone or smartwatch. Once they enroll in Ram Connect and download the Ram app, they can create and store digital keys to store in their smartphone or share with others. An NFC-based smart card is a little backup in case the phone breaks or is not available. Traditional key fobs are still the standard.
