The past few weeks, it’s been all good news for the Chrysler Pacifica. Voted as the best family car in 2021 by PARENTS magazine, and one of the best vehicles for people with pets, Chrysler gets another win with Good Housekeeping and the Best New Hybrid Cars for 2021. This time, the Pacifica Hybrid minivan is getting a turn to shine, claiming a spot on the list. Having been released shortly after the success of the Pacifica minivan, the Pacifica Hybrid also won many hearts.

Whether a well-known or mysterious name to our readers, the Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) is one of many automotive databases with hundreds of hours and thousands of miles of vehicle testing under their belt. Able to identify the best models in the market today, the Best New Hybrid Cars for 2021 list of course focused on the top hybrid makes and models available in the market today, new or refreshed for 2021. To get a balanced take on each vehicle, once Good Housekeeping had its list of the top contenders, colleagues at Car and Driver were also called in to compare notes on performance and other features. Now that’s definitely a name people should know, and that’s how the winners were selected.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan had won anything, and it’s definitely not the first win for Good Housekeeping. 2021 marks the fourth consecutive year that Chrysler received this honor from Good Housekeeping, making the Pacifica Hybrid the most awarded minivan over the last five years. The Pacifica Hybrid is also still the segment’s only hybrid currently out on the market. There is a bit of a surprise to the model, and its name.

Although called the Chrysler Pacifica “Hybrid”, I will argue that they should really change the name. It’s a little misleading, because the Pacifica Hybrid is, in fact, a plug-in hybrid. Unlike a regular hybrid that has a small battery that really only adds extra driving range and helps with the fuel economy, a plug-in hybrid comes with a large battery the consumer can choose to charge. Because this battery is so large, it can offer more than 30 miles of driving range on electricity alone. Together with a modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gasoline engine as the electric motor’s counterpart, the Pacifica Hybrid gets more than 80 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) and a total range of more than 500 miles. That’s more than “just a hybrid”, don’t you think?

Like the Pacifica, the Pacifica Hybrid offers over 100 standard and available safety and security features to keep the driver and passengers safe. Due to the placement of the electric battery, the second-row no longer features Stow ‘n Go seating, replaced with captain’s chairs instead. Uconnect Theater, along with two 10.1-inch seatback touchscreens for streaming videos and playing games, is still an available add-on for family minivans that really need to keep kids entertained. Able to seat up to seven passengers, the third row does come with Stow ‘n Go seating. Plus, a family-favorite, available hands-free sliding doors and liftgate. No more pinched fingers – that seriously hurt.
