2020 may not have had as many as automotive events as yesteryear, and although that also means a lack of award shows and celebrations, it doesn’t mean that annual award ceremonies are going to just give up and pack it in for next year. Publications and organizations are still reviewing and evaluating, testing, driving, and scoring vehicles in every auto segment. Alongside all of these automobiles, 2020 has been a surprisingly innovative year for some automakers looking to quickly adapt to a post-pandemic world. However, just before the pandemic, a new hybrid vehicle was making waves overseas. From the previously known automobile group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA, now Stellantis), Jeep 4xe models started coming out. This bit of tech won the new 2021 Jeep® Wrangler 4xe bragging rights as the Hybrid Technology Solution of the Year, awarded by AutoTech Breakthrough Awards Program.

Jeep started rolling out the first Jeep 4xe models with the Jeep Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe First-Edition Models. Alongside the Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe is the classic Wrangler, now also a 4xe. Jeep blew up the internet with this one, releasing an ad for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe that included the famous monologue “Pale Blue Dot” monologue by Carl Sagan. Check it out below if you haven’t seen it.

Able to deliver up to 25 miles of nearly silent, zero-emission, electric-only propulsion, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a new age for the off-road vehicle. Built with a powertrain that pairs a high-tech, 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a high-voltage battery pack, the Wrangler 4xe is even more powerful than its predecessors in some ways. Able to instantly deliver torque on demand, even rock-crawling can be done at the slowest of speeds. With great fuel efficiency (partly in thanks to the fuel-saving, seamless, stop-start technology also installed) the Wrangler 4xe has an estimated 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is able to generate 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Think hybrid vehicles can rock it? The Wrangler 4xe can accelerate from 0-60 mph time of just 6.0 seconds. Maybe nothing ground-breaking, but it can do that and still has a total driving range of nearly 400 miles. The future of hybrid cars looks bright, maybe enough to make another FCA brand make the jump *cough*Dodge*cough*.

Who is Auto Breakthrough? Part of Tech Breakthrough, one of the leading market intelligence and recognition platforms for global technology innovation and leadership, Auto Breakthrough doesn’t just highlight vehicles and new models like many other publications. The focus is instead placed on automotive technologies, services, companies and products, including Connected Car tech, Electric Vehicles, Engine Tech, Automotive CyberSecurity, Sensor Technology, Traffic Tech, Vehicle Telematics, and more. So out of all this, Auto Breakthrough picked the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe.

“The Jeep Wrangler 4xe reaches a new audience by creatively mixing advanced propulsion with a staple in the off-road world…It is this combination of technology without sacrificing the core capabilities of the Wrangler that has earned the vehicle our Hybrid Technology Solution of the Year award.” – Bryan Vaughn, President of AutoTech Breakthrough Awards
