2024 MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Returns With Dodge Direct Connection Grudge Race

Dodge may be going down the path of all-electric vehicles with the new Dodge Charger Daytona SRT battery-electric vehicle (BEV), but they also released the next generation of the Dodge Charger. If anyone thought Dodge would completely kill off their gasoline counterparts after the “last call” ended with the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, they will be in for a surprise. To keep the muscle car spirit alive, events like Roadkill Nights happen every year. Although a little later in the year, one of the events during Roadkill Nights is the Dodge Direct Connection Grudge Race, and the competitors are already getting to work on their build projects for the race.
Going on for its ninth year, MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge brings back the Direct Connection Grudge Race for its fourth consecutive year. A true grudge match between six competitors, a mix of veteran and rookie drivers will be getting behind the wheel and modifying their Dodge vehicle with a Direct Connection HurriCrate engine. Comprised of a high-output version of the 3.0L Hurricane Twin Turbo engine, each competitor has access to factory-backed performance parts through the Dodge Power Brokers dealer network to enhance their respective drag car build projects past the powertrain.
The only legally sanctioned drag racing on Woodward Avenue in Metro Detroit this summer, MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge is the place to really experience the power of a Dodge vehicle. Attendees can expect a classic and modern muscle car show, Dodge Thrill Rides, Dodge displays and Dodge show vehicles, Roadkill talent appearances, a vendor midway, and of course the chance to watch some of America’s quickest street-legal cars race on Woodward Avenue. The Direct Connection Grudge Race will serve as the headline attraction at Roadkill Nights with social media already bubbling up.
“For nearly a decade Roadkill Nights has brought horsepower enthusiasts together for a celebration of performance like none other, and the 2024 event will add to the legacy of Dodge and MotorTrend’s horsepower circus…In addition to drag racing and the Direct Connection Grudge Race, we have surprises in store this year that are sure to send a charge through all Roadkill Nights attendees.” – Matt McAlear, Dodge brand CEO – Stellantis
The six competitors are Tom Bailey, Westen Champlin, Morgan Evans, Allison Kovalik, Garrett Reed. Herman Young. If those names are new, don’t worry, we have a little summary on each. Bailey is the owner of the “Sick” media franchise returns to the 2024 Direct Connection Grudge Race as serving as a mentor for racers last year. Champlin is a self-proclaimed “horsepower connoisseur and competed in the 2021-2022 Direct Connection Grudge Races. Evans is a rookie Grudge Race competitor, and will probably be joining the social media smack talk with their recently created YouTube channel, “Torque N Tungsten”. Kovalik is also new to the Direct Connection Grudge Race, but has been known to show up at Roadkill Nights for building sick drag cars. Reed is a custom ride builder and creator of the popular American Muscle HD social channels. Young is a returning veteran after competing in the 2022-2023 Direct Connection Grudge Races.
We’re excited to watch the event unfold as the Grudge Race takes place.
