I called it! I FREAKING CALLED IT!!! The final and last “LAST CALL” model from Dodge is the only-and-only Dodge Challenger SRT Demon! It was so obvious as we got more and more specs from the teaser trailers, but I couldn’t be sure until the seventh Last Call model was literally flown in via helicopter onto the raceway and CEO of Dodge Timothy Kuniskis announced the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 (DC 170). Oh my Gods, what a muscle car they made.

Let’s just start with the most outrageous thing about the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. It runs on alcohol! Basically a Demon drunk on booze, the DC 170 is powered by ethanol. The first street-legal drag racing car that can run on ethanol, the quickest, fastest, most-powerful mass-produced vehicle in the world is also incredibly environmentally-friendly, with a 20-percent lower carbon footprint than its gasoline counterparts. The “170” in the moniker is for the 170-proof alcohol the DC 170 can run on. On top of that, the engine will recalibrate to deliver the most power possible, whether consumers fill up the tank with ethanol, gasoline, or any combination of the two.

A 6.2-liter HEMI is under the hood, outfitted with a 3.0-liter supercharger and a 105mm throttle body. With cylinder pressures up to 2500 PSI, this beauty got so many upgrades to pack a punch and not blow up. Yeah, during production and testing, this thing literally blew up several times! The engine received new block machining, new pistons, rods, a new crank, bearings, head machining, head studs, billet steel main caps, and a new fluid dampener. In addition, to support the power of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, the automaker also added a much larger drive shaft, 43 splined half shafts, a massive 240 mm differential, a new case, reinforced mounting, and reinforced cradle hardware. To keep the drive comfortable, Dodge also threw in a retuned suspension and a 50-percent increased rear shock compression.

Altogether, it makes the DC 170 50-percent stronger than the original SRT Demon. To top it off, the new 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 rides on exclusive carbon fiber wheels made with lightweight alloy centers and titanium bolted carbon fiber rims that make them lighter than full race alloy wheels, wrapped in Mickey Thompson 315/50/17 tires. The increased rear shock compression was to lessen the stress on the front of the car when it launches. To make said launch more powerful and consistent, a new transbrake and launch mode have been added, giving drivers more control to electronically reshape the torque curve during acceleration and shifts.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is a pure drag racing car. Able to generate 1025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque, accelerate from 0-60 mph in 1.66 seconds, and complete a quarter mile in 8.9 seconds at 151 mph, this race car launches at over 2 Gs (gravitational-force). Hey, those specs from the teaser trailers were pretty on the nose, weren’t they?

Watching the first official test drive of this car was wild. Multiple pop a wheelies right from the start, gear-grinding, even a couple of small explosions as the combustion chamber chewed through all the air delivered from the supercharger. It was so fast, the NHRA banned it once again. However, the seventh and final “Last Call” model wasn’t going to go down as easily as its predecessor. The original 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon vanished because the NHRA banned it from the streets. To get around this new ban, consumers can purchase an official slow-down parachute from Direct Connection. A roll cage is required by the NHRA, as well.

For those that become collectors when the original Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, Dodge has a surprise in store. In case owners of the original SRT Demon want a complete matching set, they can order a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 with the same exact Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as the SRT Demon they currently own. Nice little touch there.

Welp, there we have it. The last and final “Last Call” model is none other than the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. Stay in touch with us on Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram social media to find out when you can order your Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.
