This year, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has seven trims – Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve. A 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine is standard on the entire lineup, optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) for performance and electric start stop (ESS) tech for conserving fuel. This engine is able to generate 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Looking for more power for an adventurous lifestyle? Available on Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve is a 5.7-liter V8 optimized with VVT and a multi-displacement system for conserving fuel when cruising. This engine is capable of generating 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
A TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission transfers all the power, no matter the engine setup. Based on the last EPA ratings, any trim powered by the 3.6-liter V6 getting a fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, and at the time, the Trailhawk was the only trim able to be powered by the V8. It had a fuel economy of 18/25 mpg city/highway.
Depending on the trim, the Grand Cherokee comes with one of its many well-known 4×4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II – plus the Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Terrain™ traction system. The Trailhawk came with a Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with 2-speed transfer case, 10.9 inches of ground clearance, and a 47.4:1 crawl ratio. For real adventure, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk can water ford up to 24 inches.
Updated for a more premium appearance and luxury, the Grand Cherokee still offers consumers a little more features in the mid-tier of the lineup. These included heated exterior mirrors with turn signal indicators and memory, Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, automatic headlamp control, LED taillamps, premium fog lamps, a rear window wiper/washer, and rain-sensitive windshield wipers. Depending on the trim, this SUV rides out on 18-inch wheels or 20-inch wheels.
The interior cabin has received more upgrades this year, adding to the luxury feeling. Cloth upholstery is still the standard, with leather saved for the high-tend trims. Consumers can find upper class amenities like heated front seats; a rear 60/40 folding seat standard; heated second-row seats and ventilated front seats available on the mid-to-high-end of the lineup. The center console comes with two 10.1-inch digital screens (digital cluster and touchscreen radio), and to the side of the dashboard, a segment-first available 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display. Behind the seats, a new high-definition rear-seat entertainment system is available with FireTV built in.
Enjoy all of this in the new 16-way adjustable front seats that have power lumbar and memory, plus seat back massage. Oh, and Jeep added an all-new premium, full-suite of customizable LED lighting with daytime/nighttime settings, standard on all trim levels. A five-color selection is available on the Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims.
Upping the tech in the cabin, Uconnect 5 is available, offering up to three 10.1-inch (25.6 cm) and two 10.25-inch (26 cm) digital displays in the cabin for a more intuitive user experience. The standard is usually Uconnect on a 7-inch or 8.4-inch display, with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot, HD Radio, and integrated voice command with Bluetooth available. Also features in the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee are Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new full-color, 10-inch windshield Head-up Display (HUD), Amazon Alexa virtual assistant functionality, the SiriusXM 360L platform with personalized stations powered by Pandora, TomTom navigation, and FireTV to allow passengers to stream videos, play games, listen to music, get information and watch downloaded content via the in-vehicle 4G Wi-Fi hotspot or mobile device hotspot.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee passes all the tests for basic safety features, making the following standard – advanced multistage front airbag system with supplemental airbags all around the cabin, stability and traction control systems, an enhanced accident response system, and a LATCH-ready child seat anchor system. Advanced safety features have also been made standard in many trims, such as ParkView rear backup camera, ParkSense rear park assist with stop, full-speed forward collision warning plus, lane-departure warning plus, blind spot and cross path detection, enhanced accident response system. Also available on select trims are parallel and perpendicular park assist with stop, Intersection Collision Assist, a Drowsy Driver Detection system, and a new 360-degree surround view camera system with front and rear washers.
All Jeep vehicles are covered by a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for five years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for five years or 100,000 miles.
