2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Dominates NWAPA Mudfest

It’s that time of year. Love is in the air, and that goes for automakers, too. Organizations are holding annual events and awards shows, and the most recent at the end of April was the annual Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) “Mudfest”. Delivering awards to automobiles in multiple categories, namely SUVs and crossovers, NWAPA seems to be a Jeep fan. The all-new 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee 4xe completely dominated the competition.

“The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, along with the first-ever three-row Grand Cherokee L and all-new two-row Grand Cherokee, make up the best lineup ever for Grand Cherokee, a nameplate that holds the distinction of being the most awarded SUV of all time…Winning the 2022 Northwest Outdoor Vehicle of the Year, the Grand Cherokee, now with electrified 4xe technology, leads the Jeep brand toward its vision of Zero Emission Freedom.” – Jim Morrison, vice president and head of Jeep brand North America

Rising to the top during the 27th annual Mudfest competition, hosted by the NWAPA, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe earned itself top honors. Not only did the SUV win three of the eight vehicle categories, but the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was also voted Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year by NWAPA. Making history for the automaker and NWAPA, this is the first time in the event’s 27-year history that any single vehicle has captured the Overall, Electrified Utility Vehicle and Mid- and Full-Size Family categories simultaneously.

For those that aren’t aware of NWAPA, it’s a professional organization of automotive journalists and media members from throughout the Pacific Northwest and Southwest Canada. Still young, the organization has 30 years under its belt, and has expanded to include 45 voting members representing newspapers, magazines, radio stations, media groups, and the internet. The focus on testing SUVs and crossover started in the mid-1990s, and the Mudfest competition can be tough. Members of NWAPA tested vehicles on paved and off-road routes for two days at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington. 20 vehicles from 17 manufacturers were tested and measured, able to win one or more of eight categories: Subcompact and Compact Family, Mid- and Full-Size Family, Compact and Midsize Luxury, Full-Size Luxury, Pickup Trucks, Extreme Capability, Electrified Utility Vehicle and Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year. Winning 2022 Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year is the highest honor of this competition.

Of course the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe would take home several awards. Following the release of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the automaker is keeping its word about electrifying every vehicle in the lineup. The Jeep Cherokee and maybe even the Gladiator should be next on the list before the automaker releases its first all-electric Jeep SUV. Breaking new ground, the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe offers 25 miles of all-electric range and has an EPA rating of 56 MPGe. Able to deliver 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, the Grand Cherokee 4xe is still as capable as ever. Equipped with a two-speed transfer case, 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio and 47.4:1 crawl ratio, going off road and rock crawling are easier than ever with torque delivered at 0 RPM. With Quadra-Lift air suspension, the Grand Cherokee 4xe can even get up to 10.9 inches of ground clearance and 24 inches of water fording capability.

If there was any doubt that a plug-in hybrid SUV was a bad idea, let these awards show the truth. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a winner! Follow us on Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram to find out when it’s available for purchase.
