The long-awaited Ram 1500 Rebel TRX off-road monster of a truck was finally announced and released by the end of 2020, and like usual, Mopar was quick to accessorize the Ram TRX to show off what consumers can do with it. Before any units were produced and sold, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition was first in line and immediately sold out with only 702 units set for production. To make sure only true Ram fans were getting their hands on them, the very first unit was auctioned off to set a precedent.
Although the starting MSRP of the Ram 1500 TRX is $70,095 (plus destination fee), the Launch Edition is bound to get extra goods to set it apart. The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX VIN 001 was sold with a winning bid of $410,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction on Friday, March 26, 2021. Like any smart automaker, Ram Trucks is doing something amazing with the money. It’s all being donated to the United Way for Southeast Michigan’s 2-1-1 helpline, an organization that provides services to veterans and their families. Doesn’t it just warm your heart?
Ram is only producing 702 units of the Launch Edition as a way to commemorate the 702-horsepower boasted by the most powerful factory-produced pickup truck. All of them sold out in less than three hours, but the regular edition will still be available. Production of the all-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX began at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan last December 2020, so we can expect them to hit dealership lots soon enough.
Sure, the Launch Edition comes with some extra features, and for those of you that got one, you can look forward to the TRX Level 2 Equipment Group. This adds carbon fiber interior trim, a color accent package, heads-up display, beadlock-capable wheels, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, the advanced safety group, plus hood and bodyside graphics. The Ram 1500 TRX VIN 001 also came with the RamBar by Mopar, rock rails by Mopar, bed-mounted tire carrier by Mopar, the Trailer Tow Group, and Trailer Reverse Steering Control. We assume this will be an option on the regular TRX and just comes standard on the Launch Edition.
Regardless of the edition, every Ram 1500 TRX comes with the 702-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® V8 engine, able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and run a quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at a speed of 108 mph. It has a top speed of 118 mph, making it the quickest, fastest, and most powerful mass-produced half-ton pickup truck in the world.
