Get A Lot of Power For a Good Price with Ram HD
When it comes to Ram trucks, especially Heavy Duty Ram trucks, consumers have an assortment of options and features to play with when making a purchase. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) revealed the 2019 Ram HD at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, and consumers are already itching to get behind the wheel of one. With all the options available, anyone looking to purchase a Ram HD truck for a tough commercial job or just lots of DIY projects, there’s a little something for everyone. With a fully-loaded Ram 3500 Limited Mega Cab 4×4 going for nearly $70,000 though, some may be wary.
What Can You Get?
The starting MSRP for a fully-loaded Ram 3500 Limited Mega Cab 4×4 is a solid $67,050 (plus destination fee). However, that doesn’t have to be the only option for consumers looking to get a tough heavy-duty pickup truck. At the 2019 NAIAS reveal, only the 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty were put on display, but both come with an assortment of options that span over a nice price range. The Ram 2500 in Tradesman trim has a starting MSRP of $33,395 (plus destination fee).
Available options and features between those two prices are plenty. Aside from truck bed size, cab size, and powertrain, the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty truck is available in six different grille styles, three headlamp variations, can come with the RamBox Cargo Management System, four-wheel drive for off-road action with a BorgWarner part-time transfer case. Inside, there’s a whole new assortment of hidden and ease-of-use storage compartments, and the option of active noise cancellation system and acoustic glass. The engineering shows off a unique suspension, factory suspension lift, locking front and rear differentials, disconnecting sway bar, and a 12,000-lb. winch.
That’s just a small collection of options available, but as we can see, there’s something for everyone. Now, if looking for a real work truck, the available 6.7-liter Cummins High Output Turbo Diesel engine can generate up to 1000 lb-ft of torque. Properly equipped, the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty is the most powerful, most capable pickup in the segment, with a towing capacity of 35,100 pounds and a payload capacity of 7,680 pounds. It’s unclear, but we’re thinking Ram is talking about the new 2019 Ram 3500 powered by the diesel engine with this one. The 2019 Ram 2500 can only tow up to 19,780 pounds and has a maximum payload capacity of 4050 pounds.
Now, we know some consumers are thinking that’s it. It’s $70k or nothing. They’d be wrong. The new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty starting at $33,395 MSRP (plus destination fee) for a Ram 2500 Tradesman with a regular cab, 4×2 drivetrain, and 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. Although not yet released, we think the Ram 3500 Tradesman will have a starting MSRP around the same ballpark. The Tradesman model comes with a regular two-door cab, a long bed, a rear-wheel drivetrain, can come with either a single or dual rear axle, and buyers still have the choice of either the gasoline or diesel engine powertrains. Get the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that can generate 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission to tow as much as 7,680 pounds, or opt-in for the 6.7-liter Cummins High Output Turbo Diesel engine and own the road.
