Dodge Releases Three Security Measures for Challenger and Charger Models
Muscle car automaker Dodge is going to be going through some changes over the next few years. As the long lineup of high-performance powertrains starts to dwindle, we may see one, maybe two SRT engines tops. However, the powertrain may not be 100-percent gasoline. With an all-electric Dodge coming in 2024, eMuscle, there could be a number of combinations for Dodge. Jumping the shark and skipping hybrid vehicles altogether, an all-electric Dodge will sure be something. While the automaker starts to shift gears, Dodge is also thinking about the fans, how much they love their vehicles, and how sad it would be to see one stolen. That’s why Dodge is introducing a series of three new security measures for Dodge owners.

The first security feature was introduced in March 2021. Offered on Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT models equipped with 392-cubic-inch HEMI® V8 or supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engines, this upgrade made it impossible for any would-be getaway drivers to get very far. All the owner needs to do is set up a four-digit security code into the infotainment system. If this code isn’t entered shortly after powering up, the engine won’t rev up past idling. This feature is called “Enhanced Security Valet Mode”, and starting now, the system will be available on request at Dodge dealers as a flash software upgrade. Owners of 2021 model year Challengers and Chargers equipped with the 392-cubic-inch HEMI® or supercharged Hellcat HEMI engine get the upgrade for free.
Next in the series is a new security feature that keeps thieves from reprogramming key fobs after breaking in. With electronics and technology, bad cyber security is just a new way to rob someone. This feature is called “Key Programming Lockdown”. Set to be made available in the first quarter of 2022, owners of 2015-to-current model year Challengers and Chargers with any kind of powertrain will be able to get this feature for their vehicle.
Lastly, Dodge is introducing a new “Intrusion Module” that activates the vehicle’s alarm system(s) if it senses forced entry into the vehicle. This can be as extreme as the breaking of a window or vehicle movement. This third security feature will be made available on 2022 model year Dodge Chargers and Challengers. Now, just one question.
Why are Dodge vehicles so easy to break into in the first place? The first two security measures help stop the thief from driving off with the vehicle and selling it with a new key fob, but unless there are cops around, a smart thief is going to leave fast.
