Ram Truck is changing the way consumers are looking at pickup trucks, and it seems like the days of the old work truck are gone. The Ram 1500 Classic has been discontinued, and so was the Ram 1500 TRX. Set up to be its replacement is the new Ram 1500 RHO, but consumers are skeptical as to whether or not it has the chops to match the apex predator of pickup trucks. In this little comparison, we’ll put the two together and see how the RHO handles the specs of the Ram 1500 TRX.

Power

This one isn’t all that quite fair, but we have to do it. The 2024 Ram 1500 TRX is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine, capable of generating up to 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO isn’t going to be able to match that, powered by an H.O. version of Stellantis’ Hurricane engine, a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, capable of producing 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. A slight difference, but the RHO can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and able to run a quarter-mile in 13.1 seconds.

Off-Road Capability

So far, the RHO is weaker and slower. How about off-road performance? Available solely with a 4×4 drivetrain, a Crew Cab, and a 5’7” truck bed, the 1500 TRX also comes with a large ground clearance of 11.8 inches, a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case with a low range of 2.64:1 for rock crawling, and is capable of flat-towing. How does the Ram 1500 RHO match up? Also built for off-road glory the 1500 RHO also comes with a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case, plus new engineering to really push it to new heights. Additions include a new level of off-road capability with a fortified frame, a long-travel suspension with forged aluminum front control arms, adaptive Bilstein dampers, a Dana 60 rear axle with full-floating axle shafts, a rear electronic differential, and an axle hop damper. To not be outdone, the Ram 1500 RHO also offers a low range of 2.64:1, and a ground clearance up to 11.8 inches. Okay, so the RHO matches up in terms of off-road capability, not bad.

Towing and Payload

Okay, so how much can each pickup truck carry? All the power means a lot of towing capability. The Ram 1500 TRX can handle towing a maximum of 8,100 pounds. It’s also received the proper rating for a maximum payload capacity of 1,310 pounds. How does the Ram 1500 RHO stack up? Because the RHO is actually a little lighter, the smaller powertrain makes sense. It doesn’t need to be more powerful to move something lighter, and that also affects the maximum towing and payload capacity. The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO can handle a maximum towing capacity of 8,380 pounds and a maximum payload of 1,520 pounds. Whoa, we didn’t expect that!

The Ram 1500 RHO actually comes out on top at the end here, but there’s another incentive to go for the new RHO RHINO. When it comes to tech, the Ram TRX is equipped with Uconnect 5 and navigation on a 12.0-inch touchscreen display, whereas the RHO offers more than 30 inches of combined screens, including a standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a newly available 14.5-inch vertically oriented touchscreen powered by a fifth-generation Uconnect system, and a 10-inch front passenger screen. That’s a lot of digital screen time, and in a pickup truck no less.

Yep, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO seems to be the new big shot on the block, and soon on the lot. Find the new 2025 Ram 1500 RHO at Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.
