Chrysler Celebrates 40 Years of the Minivan
Chrysler will forever be known as the original minivan auto manufacturer, and it doesn’t seem like many other automakers want to challenge this legend. Once a part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), now Stellantis, the history of the Chrysler minivan can be dated back to the Plymouth Voyager, built at the Windsor Assembly on November 2, 1983, entering the market as a 1984 model. Town & Country would soon become the Chrysler minivan until the automaker came out with the Chrysler Pacifica, the beat all best minivan a family could buy. Having spearheaded 117 minivan firsts, even getting all-wheel drive (AWD) performance in the mix, the automaker celebrates 40 years with the start of production of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica and 2024 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid minivans.
“For 40 years, Stellantis minivans have been along for the ride helping families and road-trippers create a lifetime of unforgettable moments…Many of today’s consumers first experienced the road in a Chrysler minivan, and we’re proud that four decades later, a new generation is making their own memories in a Chrysler Pacifica or Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid. As the Chrysler brand moves forward to an all-electric portfolio in 2028, the minivan will continue to play an important role in our vehicle lineup.” – Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand CEO – Stellantis
More than 15 million units of the Chrysler Pacifica have been sold. There is no mention of a special 40th Anniversary special edition just yet, but the lineup consists of the Touring, Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle trim. The Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid followed soon after, and recently hit a milestone of 100,000 units. For 2024, the Plug-in Hybrid will only offer two trims – Select and Pinnacle. Although no special editions have been named, some fresh changes are being added to the 40th year of the minivan, such as two new exterior colors, Red Hot and Baltic Gray; and a new Sepia interior color for the premium Pacifica Pinnacle.
Not too long ago, Chrysler released the Road Tripper Package for the Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid minivan models.
