2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Named Best SUV of 2023 by Cars.com
The year still feels so fresh, and the awards for automakers are just non-stop. We’re not sure if it’s all overflow from 2022, or if some of these awards are just early birds, but automotive journalists and publications have been beating drums. Every week, there’s a new awards competition, “Best of” list, or study being concluded to put together the Winner’s Circle. Cars.com has been busy lately, recently publishing its 2023 Affordability Report, and taking up more of the spotlight in February 2023 is the “Best SUV of 2023”. Can you guess the brand? The winner is the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Starting at $39,395 (plus destination fee), the fifth-generation of the Grand Cherokee is one to remember. For 2022 and 2023, the Jeep Grand Cherokee also unveiled its very first SUV with three rows, the Grand Cherokee L model, starting at $64,205 (plus destination fee). Also making a splash is the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV, also known as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), starting at $60,360 (plus destination fee). Each model comes with the same 4×4 capability all Jeep vehicles are known for, with 4×4 systems like the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II, and Quadra-Lift Air Suspension found on select trims.
A prestigious list amongst the industry, to be eligible for the Cars.com “Best SUV of 2023” list, a model was must introduced for the 2023 model year, or has made significant updates since its previous model year. The criteria Cars.com rated SUVs on was its practical utility in everyday driving and the comfort the SUV provides. “SUV” stands for “Sports Utility Vehicle”, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee covers all the highlights. Known to haul the kids between school and after-school sports activities to hold all that extra gear, fold down the second row (and now the third row) for extra cargo space, offer the best of both worlds with 4×4 off-road driving, high towing capabilities, and a decent fuel economy rating these days, the Grand Cherokee definitely deserves the name of “Best SUV of 2023”.
On the note of fuel efficiency, just look at the EPA ratings for the most recent model to be released, the Grand Cherokee 4xe. This plug-in hybrid SUV can provide a miles-per-gallon equivalent (MPGe) of 56 MPGe, 25 miles of all-electric range (AER), and a total combined driving range of 470 miles. Combined means a full-charged battery and a full tank of gas. For the Grand Cherokee 4xe, all that power comes from a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine and an electric motor, able to generate up to 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
