Off-road automaker Jeep® is one of the strongest brands in the Stellantis portfolio. We’re still waiting on the first all-electric Jeep model, named the Wagoneer S for the American model, but the brand always wows us when the time comes for something new. Just a few years ago, the automaker released a mid-size pickup truck, the Jeep Gladiator. Better yet, it was based on the original Jeep Wrangler. Basically an off-road vehicle with a truck bed, the Wrangler has some new additions for the 2024 model year.

Powertrain

For the Gladiator, Jeep kept things simple. Powering all trims was a 3.6-liter V6 engine with variable valve timing (VVT) and electric start-stop (ESS) technology, able to generate 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission was also standard on all trims, but for 2024, an 8-speed automatic transmission has been added as the new standard. No change on 4×4 off-road systems, but the Command-Trac® part-time 4×4 system is still the lineup standard on all but the Rubicon X trim, equipped with a 4:1 Rock-Trac heavy-duty part-time 4×4 system instead.

Style

A small change to the style is the addition of a new paint color. Taking some inspiration from the ’41 exterior paint color, the Jeep Gladiator now offers a Fathom Blue and military olive drab to the collection of paint jobs. Jeep is known to keep most of the goodies available past the bare bones base trim of its models, but the Gladiator starts off well with LED dome lamp, front fog lamps, front door tinted glass, a premium black Sunrider® top, solar control glass, and tinted windshield glass. Features like heated exterior mirrors, automatic headlamps, deep-tint sunscreen windows, and a windshield with Corning® Gorilla® glass can be found on trims past the base.

The interior is a little different, starting with a 6-way manually-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way manually-adjustable lumbar support and 4-way manually-adjustable front passenger seat with cloth upholstery as the standard. A little further into the lineup, Mojave X and Rubicon X trims come with an 8-way automatically-adjustable driver’s seat with 4-way automatically-adjustable lumbar support and an 8-way manually-adjustable front passenger seat. Consumers can find premium cloth seat trimming in the Mojave and Mohave X, and Nappa leather in the Rubicon X. To keep the cabin cool, an Active Cabin Ventilation system has been made available to give customers the ability to pre-condition their vehicle’s cabin, via the Jeep Connect mobile app prior to getting behind the wheel.

Tech

Aside from the ventilation system, no real change in tech this year. Uconnect 5 on a 12.3-inch touchscreen display is standard, followed by Uconnect 5 with navigation past the first two trims in the lineup. Regardless, they all come with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capability, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Jeep connected services, handsfree phone and audio controls, andSiriusXM Satellite Radio with a trial. An 8-speaker sound system is standard, so that’s nice. As for advanced safety features, trims past the base come with full-speed forward-collision warning and adaptive cruise control (available). Consumers can get blind-spot and cross-path detection, a ParkSense® rear park-assist system on the Mojave X and Rubicon X trims.
