Vin Diesel Joins Dodge in the Brotherhood of Muscle
If you haven’t seen the latest Dodge commercials with Vin Diesel, then you’re missing out. After the blockbuster Fate of the Furious crushed global records, Dodge signed on with Vin Diesel for a mini-series of commercials called “The Brotherhood of Muscle”. However, this isn’t just your usual celebrity endorsement or publicity stunt, although we’re sure it’s bound to get Dodge some sales. No, this is actually about extending a hand to Diesel to join the Dodge family.
For those that aren’t fans of the Fast & Furious movies, or just don’t go beyond watching them on the silver screen, you may want to check it out. Maybe it was because the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon came out around the same time, maybe it was the interesting plot, but the Fate of the Furious had the world’s global opening of all time. In short, it made more than $1 billion worldwide opening weekend. That’s insane.
Of course, one would think Dodge wants to capture the popularity for themselves, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is featured in the movie after all. However, these new commercials are more than that. As Dom Toretto, portrayed by Vin Diesel in the Fast & Furious films, it has been said that Diesel played a part in developing the Dodge attitude we know today. His iconic 1970 supercharged Dodge Charger appeared in the very first movie, and has withstood the entire series up to date (with multiple modifications), revving up the adrenaline of fans time and again. With that in mind, he was offered to become an official member of the Dodge brand family, and needless to say, he accepted.
“Ever since ‘The Fast and the Furious’ began, my favorite has been the 1970 Dodge Charger … As Dodge is a partner in making the ‘Fast & Furious’ films, I’ve gotten to know what they stand for … as well as their passion for creating high-performance cars like the Hellcats and the Demon. They’re bringing muscle back the right way and these are my kind of cars.” – Diesel.
Throughout the times, that same 1970 Dodge Charger has gone through many changes, and crashes, and its latest incarnation is one to remember.
Appearing in the first The Fast and the Furious movie, Dom Toretto has a 1970 supercharged Dodge Charger able to generate 900 horsepower*. He and his old man modified the beast, but Dom never took it out for a spin. The sheer power kinda frightened him, as it would most, but that didn’t stop Toretto from ultimately taking it out by the end of the movie. Sadly, the Charger is destroyed when it hits a truck, and it wasn’t the first. These movies are one of the reasons old Dodge Chargers are so rare, they keep buying and destroying them!
Regardless, Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger keeps coming back from the grave throughout the movies, and he even drives a maroon-colored Dodge Charger Daytona. On that note, Dodge recently revived the Dodge Charger Daytona, for those of you interested in getting behind the wheel of your own. Most recently, the Dodge Charger in the Fast & Furious franchise was turned into a rocket-powered vehicle, fully armored and able to drive across ice, called the “Ice Charger”. You may have seen it in trailers for the film Fate of the Furious.
