The Jeep Cherokee Overland is a Luxury SUV
Jeep hasn’t really been renowned as a luxury vehicle, like the Mercedes or Land Rover- if anything, it’s the go-to vehicle for adventure. It’s going to get dirty, it needs off-road capability and cargo space. Luxury doesn’t fit into a vehicle like that…and yet, Jeep said “Ney! Our Jeeps can come with luxury!” Earlier this year, Jeep debuted the new Jeep Cherokee Overland model, a Jeep that combines luxury and SUV capability, at the New England International Auto Show.
Engine
Unlike its brethren in the Jeep Cherokee lineup, the Jeep Cherokee Overland comes standard with a 3.2-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine with Elect Stop Start. “VVT” stands for “Variable Valve Timing”, a process used in cars these days to increase performance, fuel economy, and reduce emissions. “Elect stop start” is a new system that cuts off fuel and spark to the engine turning the vehicle off when the car comes to a stop and then when the driver lifts their foot off the brake, the engine fires back up. Together, this brings the vehicle’s horsepower to 271-hp and gives it a fuel economy of 21/27 MPG city/highway.
Luxury Exterior
Why the new luxe to the Jeep Cherokee line? Mike Manley, head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global, had this to say at the New England International Auto Show, “The new Cherokee Overland model is a direct response to consumers looking for benchmark 4×4 capability that only Jeep can offer, in a stunning, more luxurious package loaded with premium amenities.”
The Overland has new body-color fascias complemented by a bright front grille, body-color door cladding and wheel flares, standard HID bi-xenon headlamps, and an “Overland” badge on the liftgate, all riding on 18-inch fully polished bright aluminum wheels.
Fancy Interior
The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland’s interior comes with plenty of premium amenities, such as a leather-wrapped instrument panel, a brand-new steering wheel made with a Zebrano high-gloss wood trim, and Berber floor mats. The vehicle’s seats are also trimmed with Nappa leather and the front seats are power adjustable with four-way power lumbar adjustment, and they are ventilated and heated.
The entertainment and technology system is just as fancy, with an Alpine Premium Audio system standard that consists of HD Radio, SiriusXM Travel Link, SiriusXM Traffic, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth hands-free communication, Uconnect 8.4 NAV, and Uconnect Access Advantage.
Give Me More!
The luxury doesn’t stop there, oh no. The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland model also comes with extra convenience and safety features like a power liftgate, blind spot monitoring technology, a rear crosspath detection system, and a Parksense rear backup assist system.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a real Jeep without off-road capabilities. Which is why the Jeep Cherokee Overland 4×4 model comes standard with 8.2 inches of ground clearance for rocky terrains. It also comes with Jeep’s signature Jeep Active Drive II system that allows the driver to select an on/off-road setting with the push of a button for optimum performance. The settings are: auto, snow, sport, or sand/mud.
This is all just the beginning however, as the 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland has many more options and features that drivers can pick and choose to personalize and customize their new Jeep. The MSRP starts at $34,695.
