The 2023-2024 Jeep Wagoneer Earned a Top Safety Pick Rating from the IIHS
Man, the Jeep® Wagoneer is getting plenty of great news as of late. Not only is this the model Jeep has entered into the luxury car segment to expand its reach and consumer base, but the brand has also been electrifying its lineup over the last few years. Finally going all-electric, Jeep is slowly introducing new battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to the Jeep brand, starting with the Wagoneer S in America. Even so, many die-hard fans are still wary to go electric, despite the torque benefits, and prefer the gasoline-powered SUVs Jeep is known for. Thankfully, they can still drive these vehicles with peace of mind, especially when it comes to a TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The IIHS is one of the major organizations out there that rate the safety of new vehicles that enter the market today. Sure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is an agency of the U.S. federal government and calls the shots of which vehicles can even be released to the public, but a second opinion is always nice. In recent years, the IIHS has evolved and changed its tests to keep up with modern times and give consumers a better perspective on what constitutes as “safe” for a vehicle on the market. The IIHS does this by putting vehicles through four major tests – small overlap front, moderate overlap front (original and updated), a side impact test, plus crash avoidance and mitigation tests.
Now here’s where the scoring comes. For each test, the IIHS delivers a grade of “Poor”, “Marginal”, “Acceptable”, or “Good”, depending on how well the vehicle performs on each test. For the 2023-2024 Jeep Wagoneer, the vehicle received a “Good” grade on all of the original tests. Interestingly enough, the Wagoneer earned a “Marginal” grade on the updated moderate overlap front test. This seems to be the case with most new vehicles, where automakers need to update their vehicles to meet the new standards.
When it comes to crash avoidance & mitigation tests, IIHS tests the headlights and front crash prevention versus pedestrians. The 2023-2024 Jeep Wagoneer received an “Acceptable” and “Good” rating for this, because it varies on the trim and options a consumer chooses. As for front crash systems that mitigate incidents with pedestrians, the Jeep Wagoneer comes standard with this safety system, and received a “Good” rating. To receive a “Top Safety Pick”, a vehicle needs to earn a “Good” rating on most if not all tests. Given the ratings for the 2023-2024 Jeep Wagoneer, consumers can be sure that the Wagoneer is a safe vehicle to take on or off the road for their next adventure.
