In today’s world of car buying, leasing, renting, and sharing, the auto industry is not the same it was a few years ago. Now, most people have some kind of access to a mode of transportation, whether it be public or private. That also means fewer consumers that need to buy an automobile, so automakers need to find another way to make the moolah, especially off of the new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) lineups everyone is promising. Ride hailing companies and renal companies are starting to realize they also have a hand in controlling the carbon footprint of the auto industry, and the latest trend is automakers and commercial fleets signing agreements to provide all-electric fleets. The most recent is Stellantis and SIXT.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming a large number of exciting vehicles of iconic Stellantis brands to our fleet. This agreement with a progressive, full-range partner underscores our promise to provide our customers with the best choice for all their mobility needs. It enables us to accelerate our growth strategy ‘EXPECT BETTER’…[in] the U.S., the largest rental market in the world and the most important growth market for our company.” – Konstantin Sixt, Co-CEO of SIXT

As one of the world’s leading automakers, the agreement between Stellantis and SIXT has ensured that a mutually beneficial multi-billion euro agreement. Over the next three years, SIXT could buy up to 250,000 vehicles to add to its already existing rental fleet in countries across Europe and North America to offer consumers an attractive choice of vehicles. These include Stellantis award-winning brands such as Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep®, Lancia, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall, and Maserati. Able to offer a variety of vehicle segments, from city cars to SUVs to vans and trucks, plus a full range of alternative fuel vehicles – plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) – these new models will also feature the latest software and infotainment tech features available.

With all of these aforementioned brands introducing electrified models and BEVs, according to Dare Forward 2030, SIXT will be one rental car service that will be the first to get its hands on one of the 75 new BEVs Stellantis plans to produce between now and 2030. The Jeep Wagoneer S has just been announced, the first all-electric vehicle to come from Jeep/Wagoneer, and a part of the top-tier luxury brand no doubt. Said to generate 600 horsepower and able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, this luxury SUV is not like your grandad’s Jeep. This is high-class performance.

SIXT also wants to lower its carbon footprint, so this upwards of 200,000 purchases will definitely help with that. Moreover, the models SIXT buys from Stellantis will be fully connected vehicles, making more business-to-business products, applications, and services available to SIXT for managing its rental fleet. This means transmitting telemetry data such as fuel level and mileage to SIXT when a vehicle is returned to process requests and maintenance faster to offer consumers even better vehicle availability in Europe and North America.
