Ram Truck Takes Second Highest Rank in 2024 J.D. Power APEAL Study

J.D. Power is known for many things, especially the studies the organization conducts to find the highest ranking brands in various industries. Every year, J.D. Power conducts several studies in the automotive industry to find the brands that keep their value the longest, or don’t, as well as how user-friendly new tech is, and consumer satisfaction. Recently, J.D. Power wrapped up is annual J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study for 2024, and the results are in. Ram Truck continues to rise to the top, and Jeep still owns the Large SUV vehicle segment.
Like the acronym says, the APEAL study is all about the “appeal” these vehicles have towards consumers in the market. As usual, J.D. Power doesn’t rely on a panel of judges to evaluate and test hundreds of vehicles to put together their list. Their studies fully rely on the consumer and how well they rate a vehicle based on a survey. Just like other studies, surveys sent out to owners of new 2024 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The results come from a collection of responses from 99,144 owners that elected to fill out and return these surveys. Covering 37 attributes to rank a vehicle on, including design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, perceived quality, infotainment systems, and other factors.
Surprisingly, non-Tesla battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are ranking at an all-time high – take that Tesla! In terms of consumer satisfaction, the overall score of 847 has gone up by two points. Even though consumers still feel that BEVs are less than practical, many automakers are also launching vehicles with features that make BEVs more appealing. Not just an automobile anymore, many BEVs are mobile lounge rooms and in-car theaters.
“Traditional manufacturers have listened to the Voice of the Customer…They’re launching enhanced vehicles that are more in line with what customers want, including improved interior storage and higher quality materials, as well as ensuring features have ease of use. [This enhances the] level of emotional attachment and excitement [consumers have] with their new vehicle.” – Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power
Now, let’s take a look at the specifics. Every year, Ram Truck continues to go higher and higher in the list of Among Mass-market Brands, and this year, Ram Truck ranked second amongst all the mass-market brands in the industry. As for vehicles that are rated the best in their respective segment, Ram Truck has a long lineup of light duty pickup trucks like the 1500 and heavy duty (HD) pickup trucks like the 2500/3500 series. Landing second in the Large Light Duty Pickup truck segment is none other than the Ram 1500, and the Ram 2500/3500 pickup trucks landed third in the Large Heavy Duty Pickup truck segment.
If only Stellantis could land in the Premium Market list one day. The Jeep Wagoneer is the luxury entry for Stellantis, and although it has yet to land amongst the many other brands in the list, the Jeep Wagoner was ranked as the highest ranked Large SUV this year. Dodge has sadly fallen behind this year, once the highest ranked among mass market brands for 2023. We wonder if it’s because of their shift to electric vehicles.
Regardless of the outcome, Jeep and Ram Truck continue to lead Stellantis to glory. You find out what all the buzz is about when you buy a new Ram pickup truck or new Jeep at Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.
