2017 Ram Power Wagon v. 2017 Ford Raptor
The Ram Power Wagon and the Ford F-150 Raptor are two of the top names in the truck industry today. Both are monstrosities (in a good way) in the trucking world, and both have new 2017 models coming in the fall of 2016. Do either of these bad boys interest you? Here’s a look at the 2017 Ram Power Wagon and 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor before they make their debut.
Engines
Let’s skip the fluff and get to the good stuff. Under the hood of the 2017 Ram Power Wagon is a roaring 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that generates 410-horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, that makes it Best-in-Class for its horsepower and torque. The standard transmission is a 6-speed automatic transmission and it shifts the engine’s power to the truck’s four 17-inch wheels.
There are a few engine options on the Ford F-150 lineup, and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine is returning to the Ford Raptor. Once powered by a 6.2-liter V8, the 2017 Raptor will be equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost 24-valve engine with DOHC, offering about 365-horsepower. The transmission is a 10-speed automatic, and with the all-new terrain management system, driving dynamics are optimized in a variety of environmental conditions.
Body
Aesthetically pleasing as always, both trucks have a rugged and aggressive style. The 2017 Ram Power Wagon has blacked-out headlights, an all-new grille and hood decals exclusive to the Power Wagon name.
The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor’s new body will be a little lighter from previous model years, 500 pounds lighter to be exact. Combined with the high-strength, boxed steel frame, it’ll be the best-performing Raptor to hit the streets.
Both trucks shout their name loud and proud on the sides of the truck body and tailgate, along with decals and designs signature to the brand. The interiors are just as bold with exclusive features and packages.*
Going Off-Road
These two trucks were designed and built to be off-road. They’re badder, they’re bigger, and they’re not playing around this year.
The 2017 Ram Power Wagon has 14.3-inch ground clearance, rides on 33-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires, has heavy-duty rear axles and Bilstein shocks for better suspension and off-road driving. Some call it a brutal truck that can ride on any kind of terrain.
The 2017 Ford Raptor also rides on 17-inch wheels with BFGoodrich all-terrain tires for an ideal off-road experience. As mentioned, the terrain management system is a new, smart, responsive system to match driving settings based on the terrain encountered. 3-inch FOX Racing Shox have been added for a total suspension of 13.0 inches in the front and 13.9 inches in the rear.
Towing
Any truck worth its salt can tow a beast out of a tight spot. There is no knowledge yet about how much the 2017 Ford Raptor can tow, but in the past, it has been known to have a towing capacity between 6,000-8,000 pounds. That’s just a “little” shy of the new 2017 Ram Power Wagon’s towing capacity of a whopping 12,000 pounds.
These are the two big name trucks coming to town, and you can find the 2017 Ram Power Wagon in the Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram showroom this fall.
