Ram Announces All-new ProMaster Electric Van
Ever since Stellantis announced its Dare Forward 2030 business strategy, many brands have started to reveal battery-electric vehicle (BEV) concepts. Ram Truck was one of these and was quick to announce an electric version of its popular ProMaster cargo van. Amazon was quick to put in an order, and soon it will be available for the average consumer. Not all of the specs and features have been released, but there is a lot to look forward to. Check out the highlights of the new Ram ProMaster Electric Van.
Powertrain and Configuration
The Ram ProMaster EV cargo model will be available in five configurations, both of which come with a 159-inch wheelbase. Consumers will have the choice of a 12-foot cargo length and an extended 13-foot cargo length, two roof heights (including a super-high roof), and two body styles. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the standard drivetrain, but maybe all-wheel drive (AWD) will be made available. The cargo van will come with a standard 3,020 pounds of payload while the delivery configuration offers 2,030 pounds of payload.
Each ProMaster EV will be powered by a 200-kilowatt (kW) electric drive module (EDM) able to generate 268 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque. Featuring Level 3 DC fast charging options of 50kW, 85kW, 125 kW, and 150 kW, the ProMaster EV has many options to recharge and juice up quickly. The targeted all-electric range is 162 miles of city driving.
Style
Like some configurations of the original, the ProMaster EV will also be able to opt-in for a roll-up door like a moving van. The front-end design of the cargo van features standard LED headlights, auto high beams, and cornering function fog lamps. Featuring a standard upfitter electrical connector and an integrated cab configuration for easy upfit solutions, the Ram ProMaster electric cargo van can also be customized for virtually every conceivable commercial need depending on what the consumer is using the van for.
Offering 524 cubic feet of cargo space, the standard interior comes with the best-in-class interior cargo height of 86 inches, low load-floor height, cargo width between wheel wells, and maximum cargo width (75.6 inches). The interior also comes standard with a heated steering wheel and heated windshield. A digital rearview mirror is available, as is the 360-degree Surround View camera, enhanced by dynamic grid lines that can be displayed on the standard 10.1-inch digital touchscreen.
Tech
Aside from the 10.1-inch touchscreen, consumers also get Uconnect 5. Apps like a Charging Station Locator will help consumers on the road find the nearest charging station when a low level of energy is reached, and the EV Dynamic Trip Prediction gives peace of mind with an accurate model of how much energy is left. Also standard is a Telematics Module that enables nearly 50 functions on the ProMaster, including Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) updates, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apps Over the Air (AOTA). Furthermore, Alexa home-to-truck and truck-to-home functionality is included with an in-vehicle virtual assistant. Functionality is enhanced with an available wireless charging pad and connectivity ports, including a standard 12V power outlet, fully functional USB outlet, and USB Type C port for charging devices up to four times faster. An optional 115-volt/150-watt outlet is also available.
Making driving safer and easier, the Ram ProMaster EV offers Active Driving Assist for Level 2 (L2) automated driving capability with adaptive cruise control. Other safety features available include Intelligent Speed Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Active Drive Assist system, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning, Crosswind Assist, post-collision braking, Drowsiness Detection, traffic sign information, front parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
“The introduction of the Ram ProMaster EV represents another major milestone on our electrification journey as we continue to evolve without sacrificing capability…Ram’s first available electric vehicle is a game-changer, offering commercial customers, large and small, the ultimate van in zero-emissions performance, commercial capability and advanced technology.” – Tim Kuniskis, Ram brand CEO – Stellantis
