Jeep® finally did it. The very first all-electric vehicle, going international is the one and only all-new, all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S. A first for the brand, it’s a global battery-electric vehicle (BEV), launching first in the United States and Canada. It’s fast, it’s powerful, and it’s just as capable as any other Jeep model out there. Just check out the nearly two-minute short Jeep put out to celebrate this accomplishment.

The short film, “Surpass Yourself” ends on an interesting note about needing to surpass oneself before it can surpass others. There is no official information on the powertrain for the Jeep Wagoneer S, but we do know it’s pretty powerful for a BEV. Able to generate 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque, the Wagoneer S isn’t just fast. This all-electric SUV outperforms the Tesla Model Y Performance model, able to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 3.4 seconds. Heck, it even outperformed one of its own – the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Originally the fastest Jeep SUV once available on the market, the Wagoneer S is a whole second faster. Because this is an all-electric vehicle, the Wagoneer S also provides an all-electric range of 300+ miles.

Remember back when Wagoneer was just a subsidiary of Jeep and not called the Jeep Wagoneer? Maybe it was just too confusing to separate the original brand from the luxury brand, but now that Jeep has another BEV to add to its growing lineup, it’s smart to add the “Jeep” moniker back on there so consumers know this is still a Jeep, electric or not. To prove that, the “Surpass Yourself” short also shows the capability of the Jeep Wagoneer S. Electric vehicles are known for adding torque at 0 RPM for extra handling and control, but the Jeep Wagoneer S also comes with a rotary dial for transmission and Drive Modes – Sport, Auto, ECO, Snow, and Sand. We get to see how it handles sand in the film.

The design is also pretty sweet, with a front fascia filled with LEDs, a new seven-slot grille, and a sleek body. For outdoor adventures and fresh air, it still comes with an available sunroof that retracts to revel in that open-air freedom. There is something interesting about this announcement. Notice that it’s the first global BEV by Jeep, but not the first BEV for the brand ever. That title belongs to the Jeep Recon, the actual first BEV by the brand that is surprisingly only being sold in Europe. Even with its 7.9 inches of ground clearance, front tow hooks, wide fenders, and large tires for going off-road – all powered by a 400-volt electrical system and a single electric motor – this thing isn’t going to swim across the Atlantic and land on our shore

It’s okay. Apparently, there is a second BEV coming to America from Jeep that has little information on it outside of a name. Called the Jeep Recon, this will be the next BEV Jeep talks about following its new Wagoneer S. For now, we wait to see when the new Jeep Wagoneer S becomes available.
