Jeep Jamboree 2020 Marches On
Jeep Jamboree is still on, people! That’s right, despite the Coronavirus pandemic, despite the fact that it may linger on all year, the Jeep Jamboree will happen. Scheduled to take place, or at least, it will in certain places. The good people of Bradford, Pennsylvania are ready for adventure after being cooped up since April 1st and just coming out of that lockdown in early June. So of course Bradford citizens aren’t going to miss out on one of their legendary annual summer events – the 23rd annual Penn’s Woods Jeep Jamboree, running June 25 through June 28 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
We’re sure any Jeepers in Florida already attended the Jamboree in Bartow, Florida in early January before everything got a little crazy. Events took a nosedive and paused at the end of January, picked back up in March, and then dropped again during the nearly nationwide shutdown. Now that things are picking back up, the Jamboree is back on, and the current schedule aims to hit a lot of places over the next few months.
Lasting until November, the next events that you can catch are the aforementioned 23rd Penn’s Woods 2020 in Bradford, Pennsylvania and:
- The 14th Killington 2020 in Killington, Vermont, July 16 – July 18
- The 25th Northwoods – Mole Lake 2020 at Crandon, Wisconsin, July 16 – July 18
- The 19th Silver Valley 2020 in Mullan/Wallace, Idaho, July 16 – July 18
- The 9th Coal Mountain 2020 in Coal Township, Pennsylvania, July 30 – August 1
That’s it for the rest of the summer events, but there’s still plenty of other dates from the west coast to the east coast and back again, so there’s a chance for everyone to join in on the fun. Known for many activities and adventures on 4×4 trails, the Jamboree is the perfect way to get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors. Plus, it’s the perfect activity for social distancing.
What better way to partake in a social activity while practicing social distancing than a 4×4 tailgate party? During the event, participants in Jeep Jamboree spend their days in their Jeep vehicles on trails, exploring woodlands in the region, and the whole time each family is contained in its own vehicle. Furthermore, for those that register for housing during the event, any of the participants who stay on campus will have an individual apartment for a single family. Pitt-Bradford will also be providing boxed meals and conduct no-contact guest check-in and check out to keep all participants safe during their stay.
110 Jeeps with 250 people have already registered for the Bradford event, so we can only imagine the turnout for future events. Planning on registering? There are a few things you need. Jeep Jamboree experts suggest the following:
- A CB Radio to keep in contact with the rest of the group and guides, or just make plans with people you meet
- A full-size spare tire; rubber-band spares just won’t do on a 4×4 trail
- Front and Rear Tow Hooks, properly mounted with grade-eight bolts and easily accessible at either end. Drawbars, receiver hitches, and aftermarket bumpers with manufacturer-installed clevis or D-ring anchor points are acceptable alternatives.
- It’s also recommended that your Jeep have certain upgrades, including skid plates (oil pan, gas tank, and transfer case), rock rails/sliders, tow straps, self-recovery winches, winching accessory kit, quadratec d-rings and receiver mounts, and a hi-lift jack.
