Jeep Grand Cherokee L Awarded TSP+ Rating from IIHS
The safety of cars on the road is the most important factor that a consumer should think about when in the market for a new car. Even sports cars need some advanced safety features to keep the driver safe. Family cars and SUVs especially benefit from advanced features, but in the case of an incident, there are ways to find out how well a car will mitigate damage and injury to the driver and passengers. Organizations like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are known for this, putting vehicles through rigorous tests to find its crashworthiness, and then gives the vehicle an award (if applicable) based on its safety rating. That’s good news for the three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L, having earned a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating (TSP +), the highest honor of the IIHS.

Over the years, the IIHS has changed its way of testing the safety and crashworthiness of cars. With a total of five tests for the body and crumple zones of a car, a vehicle is put through a Small overlap front driver-side test, a small overlap front passenger-side test, moderate overlap front test, and an updated side test (each side). Each is then rated on a scale of “Poor”, “Marginal”, “Acceptable”, or “Good”. To get a TSP + rating, a vehicle needs to receive a “Good” rating on all five tests. Then, in today’s modern world, there are advanced safety features to consider.
Rated with another scale – “Basic”, “Advanced”, or “Superior” – the IIHS checks if the vehicle has systems that can help mitigate or stop auto incidents altogether. For vehicle-to-vehicle, the Grand Cherokee L received a “Superior” rating, with mixed ratings for vehicle-to-pedestrian between Advanced and Superior for day/night. However, the Grand Cherokee L does feature Full-Speed Collision Warning system with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection, and the system’s array of cameras and sensors satisfied IIHS for daylight and nighttime function, leading to the award of a TSP+ rating. With more than 110 available safety and security features, safety is still a top priority.
