Earth Day 2016 events in South Florida

South Florida is beautiful and we are lucky to live here. Take some time this weekend to enjoy our environment and participate in some of the local Earth Day activities. Below are some of the free events taking place in Miami, the Florida Keys and Palm Beach County this weekend.



April 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at Greynolds Park Boathouse in Miami
Hosted by Miami EcoAdventures EarthFest will be a day filled exciting nature-focused activities like a guided canoe tour, a scavenger hunt and walking tours. Kids can enjoy free face painting and there will also be a cooking demo focused on catching and cooking invasive species. Parking is $7.

Earth Day at Legion Park

April 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Legion Park in Miami
The usual Saturday farmers market, the Upper Eastside Farmers Market, will feature additional vendors giveaways and kids activities, and will stay open until 3:00 p.m. for a special Earth Day celebration. will be hosting shoreline clean ups every half hour beginning at 1:00 PM.  Additionally, it is a pet friendly event and there will be an onsite vet offering low cost vaccines!


Florida Earth Festival

April 23 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at University Woodlands Park in Boca Raton
This year marks the event’s third annual Earth Day and the festival includes activities for adults and children. There are various activities held both indoors and outdoors and various activities include live music, a barbecue and an alternative fuel park. The fuel park will offer visitors test drives in Tesla vehicles, and will have displays featuring a solar-powered vehicle, and propane fueled vehicles, like a UPS delivery truck and a police car.

Great American Cleanup 2016

April 23 various times and locations in Palm Beach County
Thousands of volunteers of all ages across America will take part in efforts to clean up and improve their local communities. In celebration of Earth Day, the Great American Cleanup activities will include a massive removal of litter and illegal dumping from public spaces throughout Palm Beach County. The Great American Cleanup, is a project of Keep America Beautiful and is coordinated locally by Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful Inc. and the Solid Waste Authority.

Earth Day Celebration at Bahia Honda State Park

April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bahia Honda State Park in Bahia Honda
This Earth Day event is set at Bahia Honda State Park, which is consistently ranked among the United States’ 10 best beaches, so it’s a great reminder on why we need to take care of our environment. The family-friendly event features live music, a sand sculpture contest, fish printing, face painting, games and marine touch tanks as well as environmental exhibitions presented by several local groups.

“Dive for the Fishes” Earth Day Weekend

April 22-23 various times and Key Largo locations
Sponsored by the Reef Environmental Educational Foundation (REEF), this weekend-long marine conservation event is designed for residents and visitors who enjoy the Florida Keys coral reefs. Events include a fish identification workshop hosted at the REEF headquarters in Key Largo on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and an organized dive on Saturday morning. Organized by Horizon Divers in Key Largo, the dive will be a two-tank trip dedicated to fish surveys, reef cleanup and debris removal.
