3 Dodge Challenger Trims: Differences and Similarities

2016 Dodge Challenger Comparison
Originally developed in the late ‘50s, the Dodge Challenger is one of the most iconic and fiercest American muscle cars — of both classics and cars of today. Over the ages, the Challenger has kept up with modern day technology and continues to amaze drivers with increasingly amazing performance.

Today, there are 10 different Challenger variations, all of which are unique in engine  types and design styling. Aside from horsepower, there are a few different names  commonly associated with Challenger trims — a few of these names are SRT, HEMI, Shaker and Scat Pack. So to help you figure out the differences and similarities between some of the different trims, specs and names of the Challenger, we have compared three  Dodge Challenger models — the R/T Plus Shaker, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker and SRT Hellcat.*

Dodge Challenger R/T Plus Shaker

The R/T Plus Shaker is equipped with the iconic and unique Shaker hood. In a class of it’s own, the Challenger R/T Plus Shaker trim has options only available to this series alone.

Dodge Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker

Combining the the power and heritage of the Shaker hood, this trim is as refined as it is powerful. In addition to the signature Shaker hood, the Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker is a member of the Hemi and Scat pack families as well.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat features such a powerful 707-horsepower engine, it is almost in a class of its own. Able to accelerate from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, and an array of ever-increasing horsepower engines, the SRT Hellcat is the car Marty McFly should’ve been driving in the classic movie Back To The Future.

*”R/T” stands for “Road/Track.” Dodge cars with this name have R/T badges, upgraded suspension, tires, brakes, and more powerful engines. “SRT” stands for “Street & Racing Technology.” It is the name of a high-performance automobile group within the FCA that aims to improve automobiles in not just power but also fuel efficiency.

They all have a 60/40 split folding seat, heated front seats with leather trim, and ventilated front seats. Despite these being 2-door vehicles, the seating capacity is five. They each have a set of colors that can be chosen for styling, but the exterior is where the real difference happens.

* A shaker is the name of the scoop that sticks up through a cutout in the hood and funnels air straight into the V8 engine’s intake for better engine performance. It got its name since the hood remains still while the scoop moves within a cutout of the hood because of the torque of the engine. This makes the scoop look like it’s REALLY shaking!
